New here, have a question

  1. Hello everybody. This is a huge forum and I will spend a lot of time here getting good information about my future years. Thanks for providing this great page. I am not yet in a nursing program, but will be within the next 2 years. I have a HUGE question....
I am an austrian citizen and would be able to attend a 3 year nursing school there for very cheap, here in the US (I am a legal resident) I would have to pay thousands for only a semester. Does anybody of you out there know what happens with an out of country degree? Does it transfer? Do you have to undergo testing to be a nurse in the US? Do I have to go to college here anyways? I really appreciate any input on this.... Thanks so much, Asta

regardless on where you train you have to sit and pass the NCLEX to work as a nurse in the US. You do not need to go to college in the US but be aware that there are requirements with the BON if you trained overseas.

    Good luck

    Hi Welcome ,
Hopefully you will find lots of useful info here. Another thing to remember is that as a legal resident (I assume you are a greencard holder), you cannot remain outside of the US for more than 12 months without losing your legal resident status. I think there are exceptions but Im not sure staying outside the states to do a course of study is one of them. Good luck :spin:
