Congrats! WE in the states do not have divisions? I am not familiar with what they mean? Could you explain?

renerian

Thanks everyone for your congrats.

Goodluck Joh,

I found the last semester the hardest just to keep focused. Will keep you posted. I am stressed at the moment as the uni. feels that they need more time to get my "course completed" to the nurses board so that I can get transferred to Div 1. The way it looks at the moment I may not even get to the first day as a new grad. - gee that sounds good.!!!

Hi Renerian, its a long story about "nurses titles' in Australia. And who does what.

To be a "Registered Nurse" which means total patient care, -drugs, ivs, full asessment, go on to management, specializes, one now needs to have since the early 90's a Bachelors degree to register in any state.

An Enrolled Nurse or Registered Nurse Division 2 as we are called in some states, are a 2nd level nurse that is educated in medications in some states, some they are not- They attend a vocational education college called TAFE for a year. I think they would be considered LPN without the medications. I have heard in Queensland they do an 'endorsement' to do medications and the course is a 18 month course for a diploma. You gain after a 12 month course a Certicate IV in Nursing. They are an integral part of the nursing team and are employed in both acute and long term care.

I have actually worked with a nurse from the States that was an LPN over there, considered a RN Division 2 or Enrolled Nurse, here and was quite frustrated at her duties as a Division 2. Had to go back to uni here for 2 years!!!

Well I hope this is not too long winded, but it is a complicated story. seeya, C

Sorry for the double posting.

I have been told by a colleague, an overseas trained nurse, Australia does have agreements with some countries. So you do not always need a degree to register as an RN DV 1 But I am no expert on this, thats for sure. seeya later C.
