A RESOLUTION DIRECTING THE APPROPRIATE SENATE COMMITTEE/S TO INVESTIGATE, IN AID OF LEGISLATION, THE ALLEGED EXPLOITATIVE PRACTICE OF SOME HOSPITALS THAT EMPLOY REGISTERED NURSES AND NURSING GRADUATES AS "ON-THE-JOB TRAINEES" (OJTs) INSTEAD OF HIRING THEM AS REGULAR EMPLOYEES AND WITHOUT GIVING PROPER COMPENSATION, AND THE ALLEGATION THAT THESE HOSPITALS CHARGE THE NURSES ADDITIONAL FEES FOR TRAINING, WORK EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATION.

We did this to ourselves. Exploitation has sprung from our own desperation. Many nurses already lost dignity because they let this thing happen to them. What happened to 4 years of hard work, sacrifices and suffering during college life? How about the sleepless night we endure for the board exam?

The funny thing is, we're already aware of this picture, but many still involve themselves to this kind of activity. C'mon, get a life! We didn't obtained our license just to be slaves.

I know many of us are desperate to find a job, but this doesn't mean that we should do desperate measures like this. If we stop this garbage system, ee can hope for a better future for all of us here in the Philippines.

I wish they could also find more jobs for us...making volunteering free is good but thing could be better.

Applying at far away hospitals are impractical for me because of limited transport.

Now that I managed to raise some money (still limited though), there is freeze hiring almost everywhere.

And then, it's even harder to go abroad because I don't work in a tertiary hospital....

This is just an investigation, right?

Yes, this is a resolution - a calling for an investigation into this matter. I am not an expert in legal matters but all our laws who are in effect went through the similar process so I have no cause to be not hopeful.

It may take a long time for this to be resolved...that's why we nurses have to unite and stand up so that our voices will be heard. We need to put an end to this abuse.

I agree that we are also to blame for this. I am one of those who availed of a paid training in hopes that I will be hired afterwards. It's nothing but a money-making scam...getting the hopes up of their trainees, even saying that if they worked hard and got good evaluations they will be considered for employment then dismissing them as soon as the next batch of trainees are ready to replace them. Imagine, not only getting free labor but earning as well.

In all fairness, I learned something about patient care and being a staff nurse. I'm grateful for the experience. What I resent is that we have to pay for that experience...

The receipts for the training is still with me. If our lawmakers or any organization need evidence, I'm willing to hand over those receipts. I humbly request that all of you who underwent paid trainings do the same. Hold on to those slips of paper, they might help us.

We've talked about this in our class during discussion. Dr. Barcelo of PNA is trying to help. She mentioned that she needed a proof for the said Bill to work. Most of unemployed RNs are afraid to speak up and give details to this exploitation. If you are brave enough to open up, feel free to visit PNA and talk to Dr. Barcelo, she needs your voice. Fight for what is right. She is my professor now and she is at UST every wed. 6-9pm...I do not know her schedule at PNA office.

Thank you for the information. I'll go to PNA/UST as soon as I have free time from work because Manila is very far from my place. Where, by the way, should we look for her in UST? Does she have her own office there?

this is a positive news :eek:

the fact remains even if hospitals would hire their volunteers still thousand of nurses will remain unemployed or under employed there's just too many nurses local hospitals cannot accommodate them, the senate should also investigate the over crowded nursing schools too subjective retention must be implemented and those with low NLE passing rate SCHOOLS close them down you FAGS . :down:

Better go to PNA and ask for her office hours. She has no office at school.
