I am just wondrin about a situation which is happening most of the time in our unit. For example, I have done a couple of extra/OT shifts when needed but unfortunately, the ff week, i was offsick for a day cuz of DNV. In this case, they cancelled one of the Extra shift I made to make up for my Sick leave. I just dont get it.. why were my SSN/Ward Manager is doing that? I mean, they needed staff on that day, so we just answered the call to do OT and cover the shift.. I dunno if its me/us and my/our lack of understanding about what is fair or simply things are just unfair.. The Staffs are noticing this to be taking place just recently.. Kind advice please, cuz if its ryt, no doubt we will just accept that fact.. Thanks..

I am not sure they can do this, you need to speak to HR and they will be able to give you more info. Did you go sick prior to the overtime or afterwards? If you did the overtime first i think you will find that they have to pay you for that shift as overtime.

Hiya!

thanks for replyin'...well, yes, i did the extra first abt 2 wks b4 that sick leave.. i just cant believe they've done 2x-3x to my other colleage..one was asking for a carer's leave bec. her daughter age 3,got chicken pox and she did about 3-4 extras prior to that...

other similar cases.. i think i will just let them know im goin to ask HR about it..

maybe that's the hidden agenda for a change..:p

where i work, if you go off sick, they wont let you work OT for the next couple of weeks, but i dont think they can cancel OT that you have done previously.

our unit runs on OT and would be in serious trouble if they started doing that.

people often do OT out of good-will rather than for money alone as they feel guilty if the area is poorly staffed. managment should remember this!

I aggree half the time I do the OT because no staff are coming on to the next shift and I can walk out. Not because I want the money. Or as you say you feel guity, probably why I am sick in my annual leave.
