I think that fluid removal is not exact as there are so many other factors that can influence how much is removed. the size of the artificial kidney and its co-efficient and the patients venous pressure can alter the amount of fluid removed. this is especially noticable if you are only trying to remove small amounts but have a large 'kidney'. if the patient is symptomatic post dialysis then they should be weighed prior to disconnecting and then more fluid can be given. if they are not symptomatic then their dry weight needs evaluating.

Any RCN Rep in the house, please?
where i work, if you go off sick, they wont let you work OT for the next couple of weeks, but i dont think they can cancel OT that you have done previously. our unit runs on OT and would be in serious trouble if they started doing that. people often do OT out of good-will rather than for money alone as they feel guilty if the area is poorly staffed. managment should remember this!

Future of NHS Pension, your views?
i too have mixed feelings in that i have worked mainly full time and paid into the pension scheme since i was 18. by the time i am 60 i had hoped to be working part time so i wouldnt actually want the final pension to go off the last few years pay. however I certainly dont want to be working till i am 65.

any UK nurses passionate about "minis"?
one of my very first cars was a special edition 'red hot' mini. it was lovely, bright red and had black seats with red piping. they dont make cars like that anymore. :roll

Future of NHS Pension, your views?
I am so glad that you are discussing this on here. where i work there just seems to be a general apathy about the pensions and the changes that the government want to impose. I personally find it difficult to try and get my head around exactly what they are trying to implement apart from the fact that i will probably finish up working longer than i anticipated. As i am sure applies to many nurses, i have worked full time, part time and taken time off to have children and have never been sure how this affects my final pension. I have another 20 odd years to work yet, so i want to make sure i am doing the right thing now. any advice from fellow nurses would be gratefully recieved.
