Any Nurses in Halifax Nova Scotia?

Hi! I am an RN in the Phil and presently working in a JCI-Accredited hospital here in Egypt and I am planning to work in Halifax, NS. I already have the forms for CRNNS to assess. My main concern is that, if in case i would be eligible to seat the CRNE, is there any employer who sponsors foreign workers? I have sent an inquiry to Capital Health Authority and they said that they have to prove first that there are insufficient number of canadians who will fill the post before they consider my application.

I am about to send the forms by next week but I am still undecided. I just want to make sure that NS is still hiring foreign nurses before sending my application..Please help me..

I live a distance from Halifax NS (2 hours) however I was there the other week for a CRNE prep day and the majority of people there was from the Philippines. So yes I think you would find a employer however you may have to shop around. The option may not be working in Halifax but other areas. I know most of the ones on the study day was not from Halifax but from all over the province

Thanks silverdragon..I am decided now to submit these forms to CRNNS. What about darmouth? Is it good as halifax? Is there a SEC also in NS? I just wished that I would be eligible. I keep on browsing online to find an employer..do you have any suggestions??? thanks a lot!

Yes there is something similar to SEC here in NS and I know some people myself included have had to do some distant learning courses to meet requirements. Only way really to know if you have to do it is wait to be assessed.

I have visited a few places in NS and there are lots of lovely places but Dartmouth isn't really one place I have visited. If you wish to work in a hospital then really Capital Health is the main employer and although there are smaller hospitals in different areas the main critical care stuff is generally Halifax. I know my local hospital has a ER and does things but anything major is sent to either New Brunswick or Halifax. If I remember rightly most of the people on the CRNE prep course was working in nursing homes

May want to check out the Nova Scotia website Travel to Nova Scotia | Canada

I am expecting that most Filipinos there are working in various long-term care facilities as recruitment agencies in the Philippines have a number of vacancies in nursing homes. Maybe, most of the Filipinos are not aware that they can apply online. As for me, I really want to work in a hospital setting. I want to enrich my knowledge and skills which I have learned in the phil and here in Egypt. By the way, I am a MS nurse and I usually handle liver and kidney transplant patients. I am now looking forward for a career growth in Nova Scotia. Thanks a lot...

If you are not prepared to work in a long term care facility and only wish to land a hospital job, look into my journey in coming here. You may want to proceed and get on with your eligibility and the CRNE as things may change in the coming months/years?.In my case, been here since mid January, took the CRNE in February got my Criminal record checks completed in long 3 months and finally got my precious Nova scotia license last week. Before I made my move to initiate my applicaion for eligibility,I searched through Nova scotia nurse jobs and seemed to find a lot of RN jobs advertised hence got the inspiration to proceed. To date, only got one job interview and it is with an LTC..Not my first choice but If I nail the job,I will consider it as a new development and another dimension in my nursing career. So, there you go I hope this gives you a bit of an idea .But of course, your case may be as totally different as mine. They might find your specialty more wanted.Good luck.

Thanks for the insight Aj04. Working in a nursing home is not a problem for me. With current economic situation, I would definitely grab every opportunity that comes my way. Did you already start working there in a long term care facility? How is it like? The working environment, the people, the cost of living etc..Are you in Halifax? How long did you wait before you receive your eligibility? I understood that you found your employer when you were already in NS, do you think is it possible for me to find an employer even Im here in Egypt or in the Phil? Thank you!

I just attended the interview a few days ago and I think they are still checking references-the most thorough and longest interview I have had in my whole nursing career.I am presently in Halifax on a temporary entry. The place is lovely and like it to bits. Some of the commodities here are more expensive like meat products and some dry goods.Crustaceans as I mentioned I my other posts are comparatively cheaper.I think I started with my paperworks in September 2009.Once CRNNS got all my verifications from school and previous registrations, they are quick.Got all sorted out by the end of November.I found my prospective employer online, everything here (well mostly)works online.Like Capital health or those hospitals under it does their recruitment online.I walked in to a couple of the hospitals in Halifax and Dartmouth and I was told I have to submit my application online thru Capital health.I gave them a copy of my CV anyway but that did not help.Give it a try,it is actually best to start sending applications once you receive your eligibility because this will be the first thing they ask when you submit an application.

I know you can make it. Wish you all the luck. Can you please share your experience once you start working in nursing homes? I am about to complete all the documents and I will send it by first week of May. I will keep you updated if possible. By the way, I am currently residing near the hospital here in Egypt, can I send my application form together with the employment verification? because I doubt that my employer will exert an effort to process these papers.

Thank you!

I think you will find employment should come direct from employer (that is what happened to me, my employer completed the form and sent it to me as a email attachment but when I sent it to the college they said it must come direct from them)

Yes it has to come straight from your employer. You may try taking the form to your HR or your manager and get them fill it up while you wait, get them to seal it on your employers envelope (with logo if possible) then send the mail yourself. This is just a suggestion on my part if your employer is hopeless with these things.Dont want to get in trouble with CRNNS;)

Thanks! Both of you are very helpful. I am a little bit confused regarding who will fill up the employer's verification. Is it the HR head or the director of nursing or our direct nursing supervisor?? And regarding the IELTS result, should it be directly from the british council or can i send the official result together with the forms? I read again the instructions in crnns website and it is only stated there to submit it and it was not even included in the list of forms that need to be sent directly.
