I cant believe it..It is just so frustrating, nurses who came 3 months to 2yrs after me are paid more than I do!!

wELl, i cant imagine the angst of those who are in service for the last 20 years and are paid behind, their counterparts who got qualified 10 years and earlier were paid more..

I rang salaries and wages and I begged to be explained why...and the last line? "I am just unfortunate and there is nothing they can do aboout it"..

What a?...

I dont think this is gonna get better...u know newly qualified staffs who cant even insert a cannula, handle CVPs, perform and interpret blood gases are paid more than me..

SOrry to channel my frustrations here..I have colleagues who are experiencing the same.. the more our working condition is not inspiring as it shld be..

went to my union, and they cant dp anything about it yet, as the assimilation is MAD.. well, no doubt about it IT IS REALLY MAD>>

i think, therefore, i will think again!!!

well youve gotta laugh otherwise we would all break down and cry :crying2: on this adventure that we are all on together:)

How strange... our E grades are band 6 and F grades are yet to be banded, but will probably also be band 6 in A&E, there is some wrangling going on though because we have G grades that aren't ENPs and some who aren't and some who are both ENPs and shift leaders.... the confusion goes on, lol.

band 6 would be a G grade..........

I've been banded at 7 and I'm currently an H grade..... I actually will be appealing for an 8 but hey not seen any flying pigs recently.....

good eh?

and therein lies the problem.... as I understood it, the whole idea of AfC was to pay us fairly and equally..

so how does a nurse who has a masters degree as a nurse practitioner, is an extended and supplementary prescriber, works totally independantly get grade 6.....while an E grade who has only the basic nursing qualifications get the same grade? the nurse practitioners in the soho walk in centre have more qualifications than you can shake a stick at but only got grade 6 because they arent managers!!

AfC also does not take into account being a supplementary/extended nurse prescriber... and have to say that was not an easy course!

what I see happening..is that nurses will move to where the money is.. I know one PCT who have banded their NP's on 8a.. this is going to make life interesting for all of us... I'm in general practice now and hoping my docs will band me 8a.. thats what they are talking about..so fingers crossed.

as a total cynic... for me AfC is not about valueing nurses- its about saving money and paying us less. Its going to produce wide variations in pay and nurses are going to start moving to where the better paid jobs are, leaving those behind to struggle with horrific staffing levels..

just my tuppenceworth........

Yup that's what I'd hoped for!

At my London hospital, NP's are either going to be band 7 or 8, that's where their wrangling is... the E grades who gained Band 6 (and not everyone has been banded yet) have advanced courses and/or degrees outwith their existing degrees (like myself). It's attrocious that the NPs in Soho are band 6, that's just an insult to the job they are doing.

AfC also does not take into account being a supplementary/extended nurse prescriber... and have to say that was not an easy course!

So I've heard... where is the incentive to do it if you don't get rewards :uhoh3:

I am also worried about this, as an A&E E grade, I had to work very hard to obtain this level, much more so than my ward counterparts for the most part (and before anyone mentions it, I know ward nursing is not easy, but we have extended skills that must be learned before progressing).

I've recently learned that we have had an influx of applications from ward E grades within our hospital, which is partly due to a relaxation of bank rules which allowed our ward E grade nurses to work for us as a D) and partly, we believe, due to the fact that A&E E grades are getting band 6, where ward E grades are getting band 5! I and all the other E grades are very worried about this, since we all know (mostly from experience) how different ward nursing is to Emergency... if they were to be given the E grade, they surely must already be competent in triage, plastering, recieving traumas and all other sorts of emergencies in resus (very often alone) and knowing when to ask for help. I know when I was working on the wards, I would not have been capable of this, not by a long shot! Deciding who, when they walk through the doors can not wait more than 15 minutes and who can wait 3 hours to be seen is a skill not picked up by anything but experience as a D grade through very precise training.... I'm just worried that patients will die if an error in judgement is made in employing wrongly.

I guess is a round about way, my concerns are likened to yours... in that I know without a doubt I couldn't work as an ENP without further training, which I would hope that I would be rewarded for... likewise, people in my job need to be nurtured and developed into their jobs and I hope that they will recieve the right accreditation for their work.

I would be more than frustrated, no, I would probably lodge an official complaint if someone without the experience we needed to obtain our jobs was given the same responsibilities and pay.... it goes against everything the AFC was supposed to stand for!
