A question about older uniforms

Hello,

I have an interest in traditional nurses uniforms. I have noticed that a fully qualified nurse in the UK used to wear what we would call a bib apron. I was wondering what holds up the bib in front.? I don't see any buttons or pins. The page below links to a site with many photos of these aprons. I think they look very crisp and professional, unlike what we have now.

I think that was only in olden days. Now a days they wear dresses or a tunic and trousers. I dont think any one, where Ive been on placement anyhow, wears proper dresses like that no more.

then I must be ancient!! I used to wear a traditional uniform with a starched pinny at Moorfields eye hospital. the pinny was fixed to a button on the top in the corner, and then your belt held it in place. was actually surprisingly comfortable and practical to wear- we used to turn the bottoms up and write notes in pencil on the underside of the pinny. we had 10 pinnys and 3 dresses. And yes, I wore a starched collar- which you rub soap on to soften. The hats were just the normal nurses caps. But have to say.. I felt like a real nurse as I rustled round the wards!!

i don't think the QARNNS unifrom has changed much,... if at all
