Intensive Oupatient Treatment

Published

Can someone tell me what intensive outpatient treatment is? I'm dealing with the NCBON & this is one of there requirements of me. My dr had told me it was intensive therapy & I completed 12 was with an addictions therapist but now the board is trying to tell me it was more psychotherapy.. After completing the 12 wks of intensive outpatient treatment I was to immediately begin aftercare which I have done so. I'm now on,my 6 wk of aftercare. I'm just so frustrated because it just feels like I'm never going to get through all this.

I don't know what got you into the situation, but it sounds to me like you're doing fine. :) I'm sure it feels like you've moved mountains to get this far, and you have; but in the long run you'll be so much better off for having dealt with it and seen it through. Hang in there......better days are coming!

I'm also in NCBON AP. My aftercare was a 3 hr class once a week for 1 year. For me the aftercare was not an issue it was paying for the drug screens, aftercare and not working, but somehow I did. Now my 1st year restrictions are gone I have 18 months left on my contract, would only have 1 year but your time does not start counting until you start work. I have seen others come in the program some made and some couldn't stay clean failed their drug screen and now are working at a fast food joint. If they ever decide to go back to nursing they will still have to complete the same program only now they have charges on them forever. Stay clean bulldoze your way through this program and when it's over it will be over. I do have to say in closing that except for the days I have to test I don't even think about being in this program. I have a great sponsor we work the steps and I am back at bedside caring for patients.

@GA- i believe IOP is usually group therapy- sounds like yours was one on one?? i guess, bottom line, it will be the BON's call. best of luck & hang in there!! sounds like you're off to a very good start!!

My IOP lasted for about 6 weeks, it was a group based therapy. We went M-F 9-noon, and it's not cheap either :(. But since you've already got so much time sober and already had lots of psychotherapy, they might not require much of you and d/c quickly. The BON didn't set a time limit for IOP, it was at the discretion of the med team there. Good luck, you can do it!

The aftercare sessions are once a week for a total of 52 weeks, they also want individual psychotherapy in that time as well :/. It does seem never ending but it can be done! I'm going on my 12th session of AC this week, hoping to get a job soon!

Thanks guys I appreciate all ur replies :). I spoke with my contact for the BON today & I hope my intensive therapy I received will be enough. I'll get my date next week to go before the board in July. I'm also in the aftercare for 52 weeks. I've already completed 5 weeks so far.
