This might be a little goofy but I am military and I don't pay for health insurance and I am very curious of how much it cost. Can you guys clue me in to the insurance cost please from various areas.
Thanks so much;)

how much you pay depends on if you have a high or low deductible.....the part you have to pay before insurance will kick in. most nursing jobs, though, unless you're working per d, will include insurance benefits and you only pay a portion. i pay $180 every two weeks for myself, my husband, and my three kids. my husband doesn't pay anything through his employer for the same coverage.

For most full-time employed people, the employer pays part of the cost and the employee pays part of the cost. How much depends upon the amount of coverage you have, flexibililty in choosing your provider, deductibles, etc..
At my hospital, for a single individual person ... the cheapest coverage costs the employee $12.67 for every 2-week pay period. The most expensive coverage for that same person costs $49.51 for every 2-week pay period.
For coverage for an entire family, the cheapest coverage costs the employee $97.79 for a 2-week pay period. The most expensive coverage costs $202.83 per 2-week pay period.
There are rates in-between those extremes that I quoted above for employee + spouse only, employee + children only, and for a few different levels of coverage for each of those types of family. The rates I quoted above are the tops and bottoms of the range.
Also ... that's just the "medical" insurance. There is also dental insurance, life insurance, long-term care insurance, and disability insurance to consider. My hospital also offers legal insurance. While those types of insurance are each cheaper than medical insurance, the premiums do add up as you add the different policies to your coverage.
I hope that helps,

I pay $444/month ($222/pay period). This is for medical only and it is not that great.

Wow! This sounds awfully high for a group plan.
My sister recently changed jobs, and had to COBRA her benefits, so she was paying the full cost of the premium out of pocket.
Her cost was $495/mo for a comprehensive medical, dental, and RX plan for just her (no dependents).

At my facility, I pay around $100/month for medical, dental, and vision. It's pretty decent insurance and covers what I need. Through my husband's work, insurance for the 4 of us would be $240/month for medical, dental, and vision. The dental is $2000 a year and the medical is a $500 deductible.

Thank you all soooo much this really helps. I have been in the military since the tender age of 19 and I am now 28 so I haven't dealt with reality if you understand what I mean.

Wow, I'm amazed at the rates some people pay. I guess I thought that they were all pretty similar. Our benifits are through my husband. We pay about $25 every 2 weeks. That's for medical, dental, vision and life. Maybe it's because the medical coverage is through a company owned by our not-for profit employers.
The medical has no deductible, $15 co-pay for office visists and $10/15 dollar Rx.
The dental is no deductible, no office visist charge, and pays 80% of all else.
The vision plan isn't very good, I don't remember specifics.

I was paying $400/mth for the "premier" plan (still sucked) and $80/mth for dental.
Now that I'm off, we had to go under my dh's plan and it's $750/mth for just medical. It's comparable to my old insurance but our meds are a lot cheaper. It was either that or pay $1290 for COBRA.

You guys and gals are scaring the living %#+ out of me:eek:
That seems like an awful lot of money to pay for insurance that you aren't too happy with. Event though a few of you seem to be paying reasonable amounts. I'll have to make humungous amounts of money to afford health insurance that costs more than 500$ for me and the family. I think I'll crawl back under my German rock now.....

I'm just a student and my husband is self employed. We have Blue Cross Blue Shield privately. We pay $465/mo for us and 3 kids. There's a $1000 deductable EACH, up to a max of $3000/family, then it's 90/10 for preferred providers and 70/10 for not with a maximum family annual out of pocket of like $3500. We've had this insurance for years as a group rate through the Farm Bureau. (We don't have a farm, just joined for $35. I always thought my coverage/expenses stank big time. Now I'm not so sure. Maybe I should just keep this when I graduate and go for the higher pay sans benefits.
