Apparently one of my instructors won't let us tape her lectures. I'm kinda shocked by this because I've never had an instructor do this before. Taping lectures has been really key for me, especially if they don't follow the textbook that closely.
Has anybody else run into this? And I just bought a new digital recorder too. I had no idea this would be a problem.

We had one who didn't allow recording...seems she didn't want PROOF of her contradictions :/
Funny, I had another teacher last semester who said students complained about certain things she said in class. She said the students even complained to the Dean. But she didn't care, and she still let us record the lectures.
I hope this instructor follows the textbook closely, at least. But you never really know until the first test. This really bothers me.

In our nursing program we are not allowed to tape any lectures at all. If caught we could get kicked out of the program. I firmly believe it is because when one of those test questions pop up that can go either way they don't want us to play back a tape recording so that we could get credit for it. It has happened so many times that we've appraoched an instructor with our notes and said this is what you told us and then the instructor will say sorry you must have misunderstood. If we recorded them they could not do that to us, so thereforewe are not allowed.

This is EXACTLY what I'm worried about. And it sucks big time.
I've even had teachers who recorded their own lectures so they would have a record of what they said, in case they forgot and there would be any issues.
Do they want us to learn or not? Recording is key for accuracy, as well as avoiding misunderstandings and misinterpretations of the material.
I can't believe this.

WE are allowed to use them in our classes, Lizz, but I have also heard on here that when discussing cases, some weren't allowed to use them due to HIPPA.
Well, I can understand HIPPA concerns, but that doesn't seem to be the issue here since other instructors do allow recording. It seems to be a discretionary thing with this one instructor.
If it is a HIPPA concern, I'd gladly turn off the recorder for those lectures. But let me record everything else ... for crying out loud. Otherwise, you get the discrepancies and everything else.
Sounds like a paranoid instructor then. They should be more on the ball. Would you still get reception if you had it in your bag and recorded? LOL! Not PC, I know! I am debating about buying a recorder because I am more of a visual learner.

I would be worried about getting kicked out, like Jen mentioned. They have this policy where instructors can kick people out for any "misconduct." If the instructor is this anal about recording, it could be too risky.
Although believe me, I've thought about it. This new digitial recorder is so tiny, it slips into a small pocket very nicely. You wouldn't notice it at all.
Well hey Lizz....what are they gonna do....search you??????? LOL!!! Okay, I'm done being naughty now, but I never professed to be an angel!
Hey, I'm naughty too. But the other problem is that California is a two party consent state. While there are exceptions, generally you can't record someone without their permission, so I'd be risking a violation of state law as well.

sounds like an instructor who wants the rep of a hard@ss. I hate when profs pull this kind of nonsense because it upsets your whole study routine. If you say what you mean and mean what you say, then you wouldn't be concerned about being recorded.
