I cant study for the final exam on Monday because my clinical instructor said told me she might fail me on Wednesday or Thursday (my LAST WEEK before GRADUATION!) I have tried so hard to put it out of my mind just until I pass the exam but I can't. I've barely slept, hardly eaten, and I can't focus on anything! I'm at the end of my rope, what do I do?! Please Help!

Have you talked to your clinical instructor? I would suggest being very proactive here. Talk to your instructor, find out why she/he thinks they feel the need to potentially fail you. Ask what you can do in the limited time you have to improve. Were you given any warning before? Did you have a review at all with your instructor throughout the clinical semester? Were you even remotely aware you were potentially failing?

If this is the first time you are hearing you are potentially failing clinical, you can try appealing higher or to your other professors. I don't know how your program worked, but in mine, the senior instructors were the lecture/clinical (full time) instructors. If our adjunct clinical professors would have done something like this, we would have appealed to one of them, especially since in our program if you were failing you would have been notified and sent to skills lab remediation. I only advise that, however, if speaking to the clinical instructor doesn't work out, because really, you should have been told by the clinical instructor prior to the last week before graduation that you were failing clinical.

Your instructor knows that you are close to graduation. What is the reason that they waited until the end of the semester to fail you? Were there any other conversations about your performance prior to this?

You should immediately speak with your academic advisor. In addition, don't hesitate to contact the dean of your school. You must speak with this clinical instructor and get in writing exactly what her issues are and what she wants you to do in order to pass. Also, the school can give you an extension if you need to do some make up clinical time.

Take a deep breath! I wish I could give you a hug. However, now is the time to be strong and fight for yourself. Please let us know how you do. Best wishes.

Thanks everyone I know it's been like a couple years but I wanted to follow up. This instructor did not give any indication before this point that I was doing anything out of the ordinary. I mess up on my first day and I would occasionally get a little frazzzled when she would berate me in front of everyone. But the last week of clinicals she stated "if it were up to me I wouldn't pass you" I did speak to the programs advisor and she came and supervised my past clinical. Said I knew my stuff and there was nothing wrong with my performance. Ended up passing getting my LPN and then eventually my RN now applying to hospitals. Thanks for everyone's advice!
