I had an exam last Friday and ended up getting a really high mark! I was super excited and felt great since I studied so hard for it!
When the instructor was doing the test review with the class (on the overhead projector) she realized that she accidently marked a person's one point answer and gave them 11 our of 1 (meaning the person got an extra 10 points on the exam).
When I was looking over my personal exam, I realized that I was that person
I turned to my instructor (who was right behind me) and told her about the mistake (there was also a couple of instructors and my classmates in the room). She stood there stunned and the whole room was quiet. I basically went from an A- on the exam to a C+.
She quickly whipped out a calculator and I ended up not doing very well (my grade in the course also ended up dropping). I am still sitting at a B- in this particular course.
I smiled and said I was done looking over my test and walked into the hallway to sit ( and cry).
I feel terrible, and want to know if anyone else had a situation like this? What would you have done?

I have had this happen to me and have known other people who had mistaken scores. I didn't raise my hand in the middle of the review. Everybody was talking about this and the instructor said that she would rescore the entire exam but she didn't want to go over each person's exam, one by one, at that time. She continued with the review and we all ended up with what we were supposed to get after she graded the tests again. Turned out it was a problem with the scantron reading. All upset for nothing. Instructors should always tell students to see them during office hours if they have a problem with test scoring.

I am sorry ((hugs)). That happened once in school to me, but it was some kind of error that caused it to happen to about 50% of the class. Ten points higher than normal. It was chaotic because everyone was very nervous while we were waiting to find out if *our* test score was affected. Mine was. I was really disappointed when I found out. At least I wasn't alone.
I am sorry this happened... It's very disappointing and causes a hit on your morale/confidence.
You did the right thing. That shows honesty and integrity.

Your honesty and integrity will be remembered in the long run. While this is a short term loss if you end up on the edge of a grade your instructors will remember this and tip it in your favor.
Cry now. It hurts. It's disappointing. But know that in the future good karma will have your back.

I'll admit it would have taken me a minute to suck it up and own up to the mistake. Of course you did the right thing. Eventually things like that get figured out anyway so it's best to be honest and upfront and keep your integrity and respect of your prof. Good luck with your continued studies.
