HCA formed AAS as an effort to profit from the use of agency staff, and a way to monopolize within its corporation. Its big business at its worst, IMHO.
But, if you like working in columbia HCA hospitals, go for it...you'll have the typical corporate mandates and controls, and some hospitals are pretty nice within the system. Just go in with your eyes open, and make sure and understand their rules and regs so you don't become a statistic..they can get pretty ruthless. Although I know some nurses who really enjoy working for them and they are paid well. :)
Good luck whatever you decide!
I'm not a fan of AAS, their business model or their tactics.
When they came in to Kansas City I was hoping that the rumors weren't true. I soon found out that they slashed pay rates and added a bunch of new orientation classes unpaid that even though I had gone to many of the facilities for years were suddenly required anyway. The facilities in the area are going shorter than ever due to their PUSHING people out of agency nursing and also AWAY from HCA hospitals. It's sad and discouraging. I enjoyed many of the hospitals for years prior to them coming in and screwing them up.
I'll NEVER work for them.
Don't like 'em.
Had to do their one day orientation for working agency in one of their hospitals. Neither they nor my agency paid.
New city, different division of my curent agency...and was told by my agency that to work a specific hospital I have to do the AAS orientation -again - since my original orientation was over 6 months old and I'd not worked in their facility since then. But this time, my agency will pay me for my time - a little less than my going rate - which I will discuss further.
Understand they are an 'agency' within a facility - and when it comes to the final assignment - they are looking to pick their own first, before going to an outside agency no matter if that outside agency nurse is 'orientated'.
Confusing and impersonal. But as I see it - no way around them if you want to work a specific hospital.
Do NOT allow someone to NOT pay you for you time in this orientation. Your original agency should pay you since they re going to be making money on you when they book you in a facility - if not, if it's directly through AAS - don't know if you can get them to pay.
Sorry, it's early - and sorry for the confusing answer. AAS is a confusing agency -

All about staffing has a orientation, which you have to attend before working agency. Does anyone have any experience with this agency. If so , do they pay for the orientation, and what are their cancellation frequency. How do you grade this agency between 1-5. 1 being poor and 5 being excellent. One more question, why does it take so long to work agency in orlando meaning greater than 2 weeks? I appreciate any answers. thank you.
