Has anyone taken Info Lit thru Penn Foster in the past month? The excelsior advisor told me that they would accept it as long as Penn Foster was ACE accredited and that I would need to check with Penn Foster about the accreditation prior to registering for the class. I talked to a guy at PennFoster and he told me that they were indeed ACE accredited, but then I read some posts on the Facebook CPNE page saying that someone was denied credit for the class by Excelsior only 2 weeks ago. I tried to post there, but I have to be approved to join the group first. I would hate to spend the money and register for the class if Excelsior is going to deny it, but I also REALLY dont want to pay $390 to take it thru Excelsior. Also I kind of feel like the person I spoke to at PennFoster may have been working on commission and may not have known if they were ACE accredited or not, I told him that I did not have a Windows computer (apparently the class is not compatible with Mac) and he said I should just go to the library, then when I said I would call back next week, he was very pushy asking why didnt I just go ahead and sign up tonight, then got my contact info and set up a day to call me back to sign up next week.

I took info literature thru penn foster a few months back and transferred the credit and it was accepted by excelsior. They told me they would review. I went ahead and took it anyway and the credit was transferred. I paid like 70$ for it.

Be careful - according to ACE's website, that course is no longer accredited.
ACE CREDIT | The National Guide to College Credit for Workforce Training
Scroll down and click Information Literacy. It shows Dates Offered: 1/1/2004 to 10/31/2012, meaning the accreditation expired at the end of October. That's tricky - it's still listed on the ACE website, so people may initially think that means it's accredited, but you have to check the dates. Carlas216 says he/she took it a few months ago - it was probably still accredited then. Now, I think you'd be wasting your money.
Thanks for the replies, I called penn foster again today & they assured me that the course is ACE approved. So I emailed an excelsior advisor just to triple check & he responded that they will accept the course!

Oh, good! When I spoke with Penn Foster a few months ago re their ACE Accreditation, they said it was due to expire, but would be renewed, so it should be ongoing.
I took the course in the summer, had it added to my ACE transcript, and submitted it to Excelsior when I enrolled. They accepted it, no problem. It was very inexpensive, and I completed the course in just a few hours.
Good luck!!

Thank you! I keep reading that everyone did it quick, which is great for me bc apparently the course isn't compatible with a Mac so I'm going to go visit my mom for a few days and do it on her computer.

I didn't know the detail about compatibility with Macs. I did it when I was using my PC, which has since died. I was kind of thinking of retaking it and I would have to try to get my hands on a PC for a little while.
I probably need to talk with my adviser because I ran through Info Lit a year ago and made a C. Since then I've started carrying a really high GPA and this C is just enough to bump me into a lower honors class (by like 0.01 points). I have one more graded course before capstone (to take by exam) and if I make less than an A then it's not relevant but otherwise I want to up that grade if possible.
I feel fairly confident that if I spent a whole day on it versus 2-3 hrs I could boost that grade.
Well now I have no idea what to do, on the Facebook CPNE page, a guy was told today by a different advisor that EC won't take the PF info lit right now, he even posted the email. If I have it in writing that they will accept it, do they have to honor it?

The approval is marked contingent on the course being ACE approved. So even if you have pre approval if the course lacks ACE accreditation you will not receive credit. The best course of action is to sit tight until PennFoster renews the ACE accreditation for the course. As it must be approved at the time you take/complete the course.
Thanks, I think that's what I'll do, hopefully it'll regain accreditation by March!

I just took this course last month, and all I use is Mac's. Easy course, completed it in about two hours. Good luck and have fun!
Good to know, the guy at PF was the one that told me it wasn't compatible! Seems that they don't know anything about this class over there!
