has anyone heard or used the services of Global scholarship Alliance. i have signed their contract and wld like to know if i have done myself any good or bad. any advice wld be appreciated

Please take the time to do a search here. They have already been discussed multiple times, as I have mentioned to you.

You will be required to leave the US at the end of the training period, you will be unable to convert that visa to anything else. You would have been much further ahead to go the regualr route and get a green card and come to the US to work, and most employers would have paid part of your tuition costs for you.

You nave essentially signed an employment contract with a businessman that operates an agency out of Ohio. It is an easy way for him to get a nurse here, but it will be a real pain for you at the end of the contract when you have to leave the US for at elast two years.

Best time to check into an agency always is before the contract is signed, they are usually legally binding contracts. Once it is signed, you are in a pickle.

thanks 4 ya reply. im a bit confused, the contract i signed clearly states that i will be working full time and study P/T and i will be on a green card. does that mean they can do something that is not in the contract. i have received a letter from both the school and the hospital confirming my position with them.

Just went to their website, they changed it completely.....they are no longer an Allicance like they were promoting nurses to get their MSN here and then return to their country to teach. They are functioning as an agency, purely, that has a part-time education component, not unlike anything else out there.

And since they are offering the green card, not sure when they told you that you will start as there are no green cards currently available in the world for nurses at the moment due to the retrogression. It will also be dependent on where you were born as to when you will be able to get your visa to work in the US.

I find this all very interesting as I am on the "other side of the fence." GSA has approached my hospital to try to "sell" us on the idea of hiring its nurses. They present it as if the nurse will likely become a permanent employee (though with no guarantees, of course) at the end of the 3-year contract.

I am going to e-mail their company representative to ask about the VISA / retrogression issue and will share their reply.

Please and let us know. With the retrogression in place right now, everything is on hold for all nurses around the world.

Until recently, their marketing was based on the idea that ths nurse would come here for three years on a J-1 visa and then return home to teach in a nursing program in their country, but that has changed. The J-1 was also not renewable requiring the nurse to leave. So now, they are esentially an agency, and that only.

I have recently applied for the work study program of Global Scholarship Alliance which was advertised in one of the sunday newspapers here in Manila. I was also interviewed by one of their staff at their office in Ortigas Pasig City Philippines in October 2007. I was told they are offering two programs, one is a study program under F-1 and the other one is under J-1 depending on your qualifications. For now they have been communicating with me thru tex asking me for some details like my character references contact numbers. Looks like they are doing background checks on me, but I havent met any of their higher bossess yet. So I was surprised with Suzanne's information that GSA offers only J-1 visa which definitely has no chance to get an immigrant status. Maybe I should confirm it with them once I get the chance as I am only interested in the F-1 visa. I am also searching for students' feedback who have availed of their program. Meantime, I have not signed any contract with them.

well i've signed up with GSAand they're offering us F! visa. according to what i've researched so far. thosa who are F1 visa holders can immediately apply for immigrant visas after they have returned to their country of origin unlike those who hold J1 visa coz they're really required to render social service to theie country of origin for 2 years. the pay that the hospital (employer) is offering us is quite ok actually considering that it wud just be our starting pay. hope, everything wud go according to plan so that we can achieve our American Dream despite the retrogression that has been tormenting thousands of filipino nurses and their families.

F1 visa is a student visa and a limit on working. Firstly no guarantee that you will get permission to work. secondly the first year only allows 20 hours a week on campus and after that you still have to maintain full time study and I doubt you will get permission to work in a hospital as a RN. I really think you need to reconsider this

Yeah, everyone can apply for immigrant visa here in Phil even if you have not undergone F1 and i don't think it will make you get an immigrant visa afterwards. I'm sorry but I really don't see any difference in the waiting period. It's as if you waited for the retrogression to be lifted. If the plan is taking F1 first then go back here and apply for immigrant I don't think it's a good idea. Just my opinion.

there has been several nurses that were sent to the US already through their program and to date i haven't heard any complains yet. hopefully it would stay that way. for nurses like me who are eager to pursue masteral studies in USA for free and also wants to earn more than wat i earn here in the Philippines to help my family, wat they're offering us is the exact solution that we need. in my case, i don't mind coming back here after my graduate studies since i can always work as a clinical instructor or maybe go to other countries other than US. there's nothing that i've lost or will lose since they're the ones shouldering all my exams, processing of documents, the future masteral studies and employment.instead, i may even gain more in knowldge stock, skills and experience in the US :)
