OK, long story short. I had to get a PPD for nursing school and it was positive. My chest xray was negative and my Dr advised me to take INH for 9 months. I am little hesitant about taking it and read up on it in my Pharm book and looked at the CDC website. I am under 35 and my ppd measured 15mm so I know why he recommended it. What I want to know is if anyone can give me some insight on their experience with the meds...did you have side effects, did you have to follow a different diet because some foods interact, ect. Any thoughts would be helpful. Thanks!!

I took INH for a full year after my Mantoux test turned (this was a long time ago; I know they've reduced the duration of treatment since then). I had no side effects or problems; I wouldn't even have known I was taking medication. No special diet except, if I am recalling correctly, I was supposed to stay away from ETOH.

It's been a long time but I took the INH for 1 year. They also had me take B-6 (pyrodoxine) to reportedly decrease/alleviate any side effects. I had no side effects during the entire treatment. Now it's just a pain trying to get the doc to order a yearly chest xray as he doesnt feel I need it as frequently as q year. I also had BCG immunization about 4 years prior. I didnt know then as I was a non-medical field that I would always be positive after the immunization anyway.

A prior BCG immunization does not guarantee a positive PPD; it's a common belief but not true. I have read negative PPDs of many many people of all ages who'd previously received the BCG.

I'm currently on INH (in my 5th month) and I've pretty much had no side effects. I know the B6 is supposed to alleviate some of the side effects, but the only thing i've noticed is that I do sometimes get a tingling sensation in my extremities... but it is just occasionally and not too severe...
