the infamous charge nurse at nursing home job

Published

Ok,I am absolutely desperate for a job.*Nobody* here is hiring,I got hired on the spot basically for the 'charge nurse' position for a large nursing home.

I absolutely have to take this position or I will be homeless,I need the money that badly.Nothing else seems to be opening up.I have some nursing experience but not a whole lot.I am terrified of something horrible happening and me losing my license, also of the enormous responsibility of this job. There are no other avenues open right now-I figure I will tough this out,and meanwhile keep looking for something else.

Please pray for me.

Deep breath! You can do it! Come on over to the Geriatric Forum and check out some of the posts.

I kinda know what you mean...I normally only work a few days a month, but..if I want to live in my house, feed the kids and drive the car...I've been working more.

You got to do what you got to do.

Get a good bit of experience (trust me...you will) and make some money. You might find that you like LTC

Don't fret, you can do it!!

I was out of work 2 yrs due to injury and i'm now at a nursing home that I said i'd never work for. Too disorganized, too many patients. I'm hating this job with a passion right now but the pay is good 18.50 hr and they basically hired me on the spot.

I have never in my 4yrs of nursing worked at a more disorganized place. Imagine having every folder in the building green, nothing in alphabetical order, no names on the folders, no patients pics, no names on most of the pt rooms etc etc etc and this is the best part. I have 58 pts, trained only 2 days to alternate between the other 50 somthing patients , then I was let lose..this is to funny to laugh. I had 2 yrs nursing home experience prior to this but that still didn't prepare me for this, not with this many patients.

State is in the building now due to a complaint. All I can do is pray that I can find something else soon, VERY SOON :nurse::banghead:

I think this is a great position make the best of the situation and use it as a stepping stone. Since you are in a management role use it to your advantage and gain as much experience as you can you will only benefit from it !!!!!!!GOOD LUCK :yeah:

thanks for the support everyone.

I am just apprehensive because this place is really, really big and I am 'scared' of it being more than I can handle.

I will come to the geriatric forum....are there any seasoned charge nurses that I can pm with?If not I will just post questions over there.
