inexperienced nurse from Philippines to work in Dubai

Good day,

I have an uncle in Dubai who is gonna process my Visit or Tourist Visa this week. It cost alot so I want to be careful. I am a licensed nurse here however, I, like alot of my colleagues, have no Hospital Experience. I have read alot of similar questions like this here in allnurses and have found out that I will likely end up in a clinic. I also looked into the DOHMS website and saw that all hospitals require 2 years experience. I am still hopeful for a hospital job.

1. Is it possible for me to work in a hospital in Dubia/ UAE?

2. Has anyone done this?

3. If it is possible, can I do it in 1 month?

Thanks a lot for reading and I hope you can all help me

Specializes in Med-Surg / ICU / Aged Care.
I saw the professional license application form from DOHMS and it is really indicated in there that I should post my past experience as well as certificates of employment. I have sent them an email if they will also accept a fresh graduate like me with no experience. Ill update this thread once i get the reply so that I can help other nurses that is in my same situation

please do, will wait for your update.. thanks... :)

Hi I have the same problem now. I just passed my Calif NCLEX and I do not have a SSN so after processing my Visa Screen Certificate I will go to Dubai to work and get some experience.

Im planning to go to Dubai to work as a clinic nurse since I do not have experience yet. Im willing to take the govt exams if needed. I will be in Dubai after the holiday season (w/visit Visa).

Are you already working in Dubai now? Please give me some feedback about your job hunting experience there. And if there are agencies there where could I start processing my papers for US. It will help me a lot thanks!:nuke:

Another thing to consider. I have noticed a big push toward "Emiritization" in the UAE recently. This is starting to effect some of the health care positions traditionally filled by foreign providers. For example, new paramedic programs are being developed with the hopes of having non foreign nationals fill paramedic positions.

Hi, if you don't have experience and you are planning to go to Dubai you cannot work in the hospital. The DOHMS liscencing department will give permission to take the liscencing with those who have at least 2 years hsopital experience. But if you will come here just work there will be a lots of job in clinic but most of the time they are requiring also with DOHMS.

I am already here in Dubai.I have 6 years experience in OT. For me, it is very hard to find a job unless you have DOHMS liscence already. The private hospital requiring also DOHMS liscence and if you will process your own liscence it is very costly.

The life here is very expensive. The public transport is very poor. The taxi is very limited and very expensive. The salary is not that much that can afford your daily needs.

I will advice to all who wanted to come here should have a lot of money in their pocket and should secure a 2 years experience certificate...If I can apply already in DOHMS i will update you what will be their new requirements....

Hi, should I still need to secure reference letter since I have already a certificate of employment. Because I am planning to finance my own application for liscencing in DOHMS.:)

Let me get this straight....to work in a hospital in Dubai, one needs to have the DOHMS license right? Is the DOHMS exam/license only applicable in Dubai? Or is it also required for the rest of the emirates(Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, etc.)?

dohms or department of health and medical services licensure exam is for the emirate of dubai only!but if you want to work to other emirates in the uae like sharjah, ajman, ras al khaimah you have to take the MOH or ministry of health exam, for abu dhabi GAHS or general authority for health services is needed.even if you want to work in clinics only DOHMS is still needed. without this license you cannot work as a nurse in dubai same with the other emirates. you need atleast 2 years working experience as a nurse in your home country. without the license also your employer will not provide any visa for you too. DOHMS exam is an oral exam only. there are 3-4 people who are going to ask several question regarding nursing, diseases and medicine.while for MOH it is a written exam while for GAHS is a combination of both!for those nurses who wants to work in dubai and planning to go on a visit visa you have to apply already online while still on the phil. so that when you come here you wont have to wait for long and at the same time visit visa now here in dubai is very difficult to obtain already!hope this help.

How much is the processing for DOHMS? If i will finace the processing of my own DOHMS license will they still require me to have a two year experience?

Let me know if there are new updates regarding DOHMS licensing. :nuke: Thanks again

Goodluck for you...If you are willing to take the gov't exams and it is really needed you still need to provide a two years experience. That is really a requirements. Even if you wanted to work in a clinic they will still looking for DOHMS. If in case you found an employer during your 1 month stay in Dubai they also will look for this requirements so that they can apply you for DOHMS exam.If you cannot provide the DOHMS requirement they will not hire you.DOHMS are very strict to their requirements...

So, come in Dubai so that you will see the beauty of the place..I hope you can find job in 1 month of your stay in Dubai. Otherwise you will be out of the country for 1 months before you can come in Dubai...

Just refer to the message of chenxiam..that is true..

Anyway, wish you luck..

Hi!

I read your concerns, and jaz wanna give you feedbacks. To come here in dubai entails alot of money and effort. I was here since September and been working overseas and in the Phils in a hospital set-up for more than five years prior my journey here in dubai, and yet it was still so difficult for me to land a nursing job in a hospital. Though you have all the experiences and all the credentials, you have to undergo series of strenous interviews, from the HR, nsg directress and medical director, you need to impress them to get a post in their hospital. I prefer not to work in a clinic bec they offer a salary insufficient to survive the high cost of living in dubai. Furthermore, you basically need at least 2yrs working experience before taking MOH/DOH licensure here, otherwise, there is no way to practice your profession here.

To all the nurses, you have to think twice before spending much money for a tourist visa in dubai, you'll be pushed to your limits. Fortunately, I am on residence visa sponsored by my husband, otherwise, I also have to comply visa(tourist/visit) rules here. Goodluck nurses....:typing
