Indiana State University BSN Thread for Current Students

moderator note: this is a continuation of a previous thread that was very long and split by member request. this thread is primarily for current student discussion. there is another thread of faq: https://allnurses.com/distance-learning-nursing/isu-faq-thread-365878.html

we had to take micro, stats, math, biology, couple of humanities, etc, etc. maybe she meant that's just the one specific to nursing, as in in addition to the rest of the gen eds? anyway, good luck on both your applications!

Can anyone further along in the program help me with this scenario? I am wondering if I wanted to take Nurs 208 along with clinicals 200 and 226 is this what the program allows? Another way of looking at it is if I took Nurs 318,322 and 324 in one semester do you think that would be okay? What I am trying to get an understanding of, so I can plan my classes in advance, is how the instructors of the program are allowing students to take the nursing courses and clinicals. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, I was wondering if anyone could help me clear this up. Do you have to be admitted to Indiana State University before you can register and take the 4 CSM examinations, because on the brochure it says

"Upon reciept of acceptance into Indiana State

University, students will register for the four Comprehensive Study Materials (CSM) examinations".

I applied to ISU for the fall 2009 semester, and I'm waiting to get accepted so I can register for the CSMs. Then I plan apply to the ISU College of Nursing so I can take NURS 208 and NURS 304 in Spring 2009. Is this how phase II works?

Also does anyone have any of the CSM's for sale.?

yes thats correct. there is a thread to answer all your questions i think its called ISU part 1

The CSMs are not easy! Study hard. They are doable. The medsurg one is a pain. GET THE STUDY MATERIAL.

I was admitted to ISU Fall 09. I have been working on prereqs. This semester i tried to study for the nclexpn, do CSMs, test out of A&P and work 2 jobs. Yea..didnt work at all. So i ended up quiting my day job, pushing back applying for their nursing program in spring and focusing on nclex. I will take A&P over the summer instead of testing out...and i have to retake most of my classes in the fall that i didnt do so well in this spring. No worries, it will all work out. I just learned the hard way!!!

A question for all of you who took the CSM's.

I'm a bit confused by The College Network's involvement. I know that they sell you the books to study for the exams. However, is Excelsior the company that actually "makes" the exam? I just found a very scary forum trashing TCN.

http://www.ultimatenurse.com/forum/f25/avoid-college-network-24967/

So I guess my question is this: Do I HAVE to go through TCN in order to take the CSM's for ISU? Or can I go through Excelsior to take my CSMs? After reading the link, it really scared me going through TCN, any advice?

Excelsior has nothing to do with the CSMs. You take those directly through ISU. TCN's modules really are the perfect tool to study for those tests HOWEVER you can get them elsewhere and that's recommended.

As chaxanmom stated, you don't need to go through TCN to take these exams and Excelsior has nothing to do with them. Excelsior has its own program and tests. You can obtain the study modules for the ISU program elsewhere. Also, plenty of threads and individual posts can be found on this site about TCN. They are also described quite accurately on even another site that is concerned with scams. Do some research here about TCN and draw your own conclusions.

Thanks Chax and Cal, I had done a lot of research on it but think I had got stunned reading that other thread, it threw me off of TCN so much. They were just sooooo negative about the whole idea, but it wasn't for this program at ISU. Thanks for your help!

Thank you so much to all of the current students for helping those of us who are interested! You guys are fantastic! I've looked thru the closed thread and must have missed this question: How do I find out which CLEP/Dantes or Exclesior tests to take? Is there a list someone I could print out? I see most of you met with the TCN and got information, but Im a sucker for sales people and really don't want to meet with them if I don't have to! As a military wife, this program is the one for me! I can work at my own pace for most of it and I am a very independent (or anal as my husband would say) so I'm excited to get started on my GE's. Thanks again!

Go right to ISU's nursing page and they have the list of courses you need. Tons of info there. http://www.indstate.edu/nursing

Thanks! That website does have a lot of info. However, I still can't find a list of what test outs are accepted by ISU and where to take them (CLEP, Dantes, Excelsior). Does anyone have the list college network gave them with that information? And should I call ISU to see if any of my previous classes will transfer? Sorry, I know this is for you current students to talk :uhoh21: but I promise this is my last question for you LOL.

As far as what tests are CLEP, which at Dantes, etc. and where to take them. Look at the sites specifically for those companies. They list which tests they offer and a test site locater.
