Inactive Nurses :A Nursing Re-entry Program, Anyone?

Published

:nurse: hello to 'all-nurses' out there!

i would like to know if there are interested 'inactive' nurses for a re-entry program in phil.heart center (revisiting essential nursing competencies for patient care). 'a four month training program intended to prepare nurses who have been out of the areas for their come back to the nursing practice..'

schedule will be on march 31-july 4. 3 weeks didactic phase (8-3pm) and 3 months practical phase (7-3pm). requirement is prc license, reg. fee, 7k.

im interested since for past years i've worked is non-nursing field. i would love to learn and be trained again and i believe phil heart center would be perfect 'refresher' experience.

i have inquired and registration is on-going, but according to them, if the 40 slots will not be met, they might cancel the scheduled training.

anyone interested, you may inquire at phc 9252401 loc.3209/3210.

thanks and hope to see you 'inactive' guys out there! :nurse:

It looks like that hospitals in our country are taking advantage of the nurses who are in active for many years and want to get back into hospitals. And for sure these hospitals will charge those "inactive nurses" for the training. I think it is all within the individual nurse who wants to to go back that she/he don't need those paid trainings. I for one have never worked as a nurse in the Philippines though I volunteer for a year right after graduation in 1991. When I moved here to the US two years ago, I learned everything on the floor on an Interim Permit before I passed the NCLEX. I see no reason for inactive nurses with current license to go into this program. Might as well to volunteer work because you will learn at the same time with no payment behind it. Just my honest opinion.

hi rep! i respect your honest opinion, because i understand we come from different situations.

but for me, its not taking advantage when ‘inactive’ nurses have options and not forced to by the hospital. as you’ve said, there are free volunteer trainings.

for me, i see it as an ‘opportunity’, a second chance, of education and training. . and im truly grateful that there are reputable hospitals that offer continuing education and trainings to those who wish to come back and learn again. (i had 6wks-renal nursing also from nki years ago). im sure im not alone…

secondly, trainings from hospitals are a lot different from volunteer trainings. sure you will also learn a lot from both, but i personally, would prefer the ‘structured program’ from these hospitals. trainees are properly endorsed and supervised by their clinical instructors.

in a volunteer setting, i don’t think they will provide lecture and sit with you to dicuss and answer all your questions.

yes they will ‘charge’ but i wouldn’t mind if in exchange of that, i will get all the needed training, re-education, competencies and eventually confidence in my knowledge and skills.

in this time of ever increasing numbers of nursing graduates and competition, i think there is nothing wrong if you wish to catch up & learn a little bit more.…just my ‘humble opinion’. :wink2:

thanks!

Hallo Nurses! I am interested in the trainings in Phil Heart Center or National Kidney Institute. I have been working as a Private Duty Nurse to a diplomat from Saudi and I am thinking of going home after 1 year and train in the Philippines. I fel like I am left behind when it comes to skills, I never had a formal 1 year hospital experience prior to landing the job where I am now. The benefits are great here at my work but there is no career growth. All I do is give medicine, inject insulin and just help around. We get to travel to other countries but the fulfillment of being a nurse is not there. I hope I can get to train at the Philipine Heart Center. I was wondering if Private Duty Nursing is almost the same as "Inactive" since OI barely do much nurisng skills? I am thinking of applying for the Critical Care Training in PHC this coming October..but I am wondering if they will categorize me under the Re-entry program...When is the next Re-entry Program Training?

Please help me with my indecisiveness...

these trainings are not going to be any different from many of the volunteer programs and are not going to get you a job when you finish. there are so many more graduates now than there are jobs, that things are tight all over.

trainings and volunteer programs do not count as work experience when you will be applying for a job, if that is what you are planning to do.

Please be very aware that there just are not any jobs in the Philippines right now, and these training programs will not count as work experience.

Honestly, you would be better off getting a job in a hospital where you are right now and would get better training since you are already there.

I would go for a job over there in a hospital if you want more skills rather than come back to the Philippines where they are no jobs.

Best of luck to you.

Whoa!!! Consider yourself very very lucky to have a job with great benefits. Take the time to read the posts here and you will realize how lucky you are in your current overseas job.

It is natural for a nurse to want to learn new things, but in the current bleak employment situation in the Philippines right now, you are better off staying where you are.

What career growth do you want? There are almost no careers to speak of by hundreds of thousands of Filipino nurses looking for nursing jobs that are non-existent in the Philippines.

Sad but true.

are there anyh more trainings or programs like this?

Hi There,

I reside in California; therefore, this may not apply to me. However, I am very interested in knowing where to find more of these programs. I went into the Pharmaceutical Industry and I have been out of nursing for about 10 years. It's time to go back but I am finding it difficult.

Any help will be much appreciated.
