In 10 years...

Nursing Students Male Students

Published

Hey guys, just started the nursing program at my school. I'll finish up in the Spring of 2010. I got to thinking the other day about where I want to be in 10 years. For me, I'll be 34 and hopefully working in trauma, ICU, ER, or flight nursing. I'd also like to earn my BSN. Anyway, I thought it would be a fun question to pose to the other guys on here. So, where do you see yourself in 10 years?

im 25 and will be done with my ADN when im 27...by 35 i hope to have my rn-bsn complete and be in whatever nursing career i choose to do for the rest of my life. i want to be done with any other schooling that i decide to do for sure. probably nurse prac. or crna. and maybe or maybe some sort of admin / business side of nursing job. oh.. i hope to reach my goal of making 75 k a year eventually too

and of course marry my girl and have 2 kids

I'll be 19 when I graduate, hopefully by ten years I would have gotten my masters, and decided on whether I want to be a CRNA, a nurse educator or a generalist.

damn you got started early didnt you?

I started taking preReqs when I was 16-17. So I guess I'm pretty young. If I remember correctly, in NJ you can't sit for licensure unless you are over 18, so no worries about a 17 year old making life or death decisions for you.

well judging by this thread the CRNA market should be a bit crowded in about 10 years... :)

i said the same thing to myself just_cause. all the males are going for CRNA and the females Nurse Practitioner.

Im actually thinking about NP more than CRNA right now, but we'll see :)

Sounds like there are some really interesting goals here. Keep the discussion up, I'd like to hear some more!

Acquiring a BSN can lead to a great number of opportunities if you wanted to leave the RN route...

NP routes...

CNS routes...

CRNA..

PA...

Phd in order to teach or conduct research

Informatics

MBA for management

MHA for admin or public health

That being said - becoming a well seasoned RN can yield some great jobs and assuming a good deal of unique experiences...!

I'll be 30. I'd like to have my BA.. I've thought of being a nurse practitioner eventually, but having my BA in nursing is enough of a long term goal for me right now....:)

I dont know where I'd like to work!... Im in my first semester, so I guess its a bit early to say. I really think I will enjoy Psych since that's always been a love of mine, although... who knows how I'll feel once I actually do my psych rotation! I'll probably be saying "Oh dear, get me out of here..":p

I cant do NICU or PEDS either-- I've been on those floors before, and they make me want to bawl my eyes out. Although, I am going to keep an open mind throughout the program so I can figure out what I enjoy/dislike the most.

I'd also like to be married with kiddies before I'm 30, but that's another story..... :D

OOps! Ignore my previous post. I am a female, and not worthy of posting on the male nursing forum... :bowingpur
