In Her Shoes - Interesting Observation

Nurses General Nursing

Published

I was watching the movie "In Her Shoes" with my wife the other day. When Cameron Diaz was working as a tech in the assisted living center I was once again amazed at the ability of scrubs to make every figure turn to "blah".

I do not mean this in a sexist way, nor do I mean to put anybody down. It just reminded me of an old story I read by a man describing the myth's and truth's about being married to a nurse. One of them was the Myth of Nurses as Sex Kittens in revealing mini-skirts, white fishnet stockings, and way to small tops. He describes the reality of a nurse-outfit that consist of unisex non-form-fitting scrubs that would cause you to fail to notice if Pamela Anderson was walking by.

Scrubs - The great equalizer of female body shapes.

So glad to wear regular clothes again!!!

Funny this came up.....

I'm getting ready to graduate in a couple months, so decided to start stocking up on some work clothes. I receved my first order of regular scrubs on Monday, tried them on, experienced the greatest horror I have ever known:eek: and promptly returned them the following day!

I just can NOT show up to a place of employment looking as dumpy as those things made me look. Maybe I am just not used to seeing myself that way (In scrubs, I mean..not dumpy....:lol2: )

After that experience, I almost appreciate my school uniform...that's bad.

I ordered some on-line that look like they have some shape to them and are cut shorter (I have a really short torso, the regular tops were almost to my knees), hopefully that will help.

I LOVED that movie, by the way.:)

Well where I work we have to wear whites.....it is what the public wants and they are what gives us the paycheck. There is nothing appealing about puke, poop, urine, blood and puss on white. But that is what they want...go figure.

I loved having the shlumpy shape scrubs afford you when I was working on psych - didn't need my patients thinking I was attractive ;).

Even better: the regular scrubs are color coded according to size. So, if, say, you're usually teal, but once every month you're light blue for a few days--everyone knows to stay out of the way!

:lol2: :lol2: :lol2: :lol2: :lol2:

I've checked the website for them. At the ltc facility i work at, a young psw student wore them. our DON told her they were inappropriate. i didn't get the whole story why. they didn't look bad. she looked like she was wearing regular clothes but it also looked like a well fitting uniform. i like wearing the regular scrubs because when i'm pms'ing i get so bloated.

Want an equaliser?

Try fatigues, a helmet and a rifle

Did it for 18 years, in other words, been there, done that, don't plan to go back.:uhoh3:

I have to say wearing scrubsis as dumpy as you make them . What ever happened to at least trying to look attractive doing your hair and makeup?

I agree. I think any uniform can look good with some confidence. If you treat your scrubs like pjs and don't brush your hair do your makeup ie. You look like you just rolled out of bed. Of course you aren't going to look good/feel good. I don't think it is appropriate to show your hmmm assets but if you get scrubs that fit and do your makeup, your hair, and show confidence you will look great. The same goes for BDUs or any uniform. I also agree, though, that scrubs don't fit everyone that great. That is why I personally am going to take my scrubs to the tailor to get a better fit. Sure it will cost more, but if I am going to be in them 12 hours a day I want to at least look my best and feel my best.

Clean and neat hair is a requirement (not fixing' it just to flatten it with a hat). Makeup is an option.

I don't wear makeup to work, even though i think i look better with it. I'll wash my face off during the day, don't need it running everywher, and i'm sure as heck not going to put it on repeatedly afterwards, nevermind i don't have the time to.

I guess it's the southern girl in me. I wore makeup when I was in the desert in the military haha! Everyone thought I was crazy. I'm one of those girls who puts makeup on to go to the store at night. :uhoh21:
