Y'know what I find fascinating is how much certain Americanisms from the south especially are Scots. I ken, I reckon - lots of it.

DH is a first generation Scot-American. I know what you mean. :chuckle
Probably because a lot of Scots went over to Canada and the US after 1746. A lot of Scots also emigrated to the US and worked in the south plantations in some capacity or other.
