I'm a real nurse!!! Thank you!

Nurses LPN/LVN

Published

Just wondering if anyone else gets subjected to this line of questioning:

Q: Where do you work? A: LTC facility.

Q: Are you a nurse or a cna? A: I'm a nurse.

Q: Are you an RN or LPN? A: I'm an LPN.

Q: Oh, are you going back to school for your RN? A: :madface:BITE MY TONGUE!!

The best one yet, oh you're just playing nurse....... REALLY??!!

HOW RUDE CAN PEOPLE BE? RN or LPN status probably would be much less important if I was caring for your family member.

FYI~~~~> I AM A REAL NURSE!!!!!

So this is where I should tell you about a conversation with a patient's family member/visitor when I was a new grad:

Visitor: "oh, you just graduated? Do you like being an RN?"

Me: "yes, it's alot to learn but I'm enjoying it"

Visitor: "so do you think you'll continue on and become an LPN?"

Me: "uh...well....no, I think I'll just stick where I'm at for now"

LOL!

People can be soooo mean!!!!! Everytime someone finds out that I am trying to get Into an Lpn program they always have something stupid to say. "that's a waste of time" or "just do an RN program..u will actually learn something". I can't stand people like that. Everyone has their own path and journey! Just because you're an Lpn doesnt make you any less of a nurse!I am taking baby steps. Even though I am as old as dirt I want to make sure I can handle being an LPN. If I can then I'll go on for my RN. Who knows I might like being an LPN so much and not even go back.

Screw ignorant folks who don't realize that the "N" in LPN/LVN stands for NURSE! The next time someone questions your ability, tell them "If I'm ever around when you're having a medical emergency, I'll remember that I'm not a REAL nurse, and therefore can do nothing to help you." Of course you wouldn't really do that. Just a thought-provoking come-back.

I think most of the time the people who use such insults do so out of ignorance. Nursing professors are often WAY out of touch with actual patient care and are purely academic. Many of them would never be able to care for a patient safely because it has been so long since they truly practiced nursing. There is a big difference between teaching theory and conducting research vs providing besdide care. Young or new nursing students often repeat what their instructors tell them about LPNs and what they learn in nursing school even though they themselves have no experience working alongside LPNs.

You will RARELY find veteran RNs who work alongside good LPNs who would ever make such foolish comments because they know that a good LPN is worth her (or his) weight in gold. Experience is the best teacher.

I totally understand. I have chosen to go to school to be an LVN this august and when people (especially at the hospital I work at) ask me what I'm going to be and I say LVN, they freak out. "GO FOR YOUR RN" "DONT JUST GET YOUR LVN" blah blah blah. Obviously I have taken a lot of time to think about the matter and I chose to become an LVN. BUTT OUT!

[color=#ee82ee]congratulations!!!

While purchasing a car last year the salesman asked me what I did, I told him I was a nurse. He asked me if I was a "Real Nurse" (RN) or a "Pretend Nurse" (PN), he found his joke hilarious. This is why hes a car salesman.

absolutely nothing wrong with being a nurse or car salesman.

i found it ironic that you were offended by his snub, yet your response was to belittle his profession. :twocents:

Yes, I'm an LPN as well & feel it is very offensive/disrespectful when people do this. Not sure if they realize just how much LPN's contribute. Throughout the years i've learned to make a joke of it when they start asking questions like this i tell them yes, i'm an LPN which stands for Lowest Paid Nurse! LOL-its true. I find that people who ask insulting questions/or make insulting comments, are really just ignorant to the fact of exactly what an LPN is/does.

I have heard all these things before. So glad I work in a facility that refers to all as Licensed Nurses. I do however get the most of it from my ex who refers to me as an over paid bum wiper. Anytime I question our kids doctor for different alternatives he always tells me that I am not a real nurse I need to leave it up to the people with the degrees! So happy to be an LPN!!

I think it's shameful that people need to insult LPN's or people who work in LTC. That's a crucial job in our society and it should have a higher status. I'm in nursing school for an ADN and don't plan to work in LTC, but I have respect for people who do that work.

Just remember that people who are happy with themselves don't need to belittle others.

I've been called a "let's pretend" nurse and a "low paid" nurse. I've worked with some RN's who come running to me & other LPN's for help. Why are there Practical Nursing programs offered anymore if so many area's are phasing us out?? I saw it happen in hospitals in my home town-didn't work so well and LPN's are being hired there again. We relocted to Fl and they are doing the same thing here. Sad thing is the hospitals use staffing agencies and the pay us alot more than they would pay a regular staff member. I don't get it. I want to go back to school but the RN openings advertised all want someone experienced, not hiring new grads. I've been looking at different program/degree options based on the job openings that seem to be consistently listed. So, until I decide, I'm going to be the best Low paid, pretend nurse I can be!:nurse:

love ur name!!!! meow!!!!! I am going to be an LPN(hopefully)!!! I will only tell those that support me!
