I started working for a hospital about a month ago in the PCU unit (progressive care unit). I must say it has been a hectic unit. I am a new CNA just got my license last year in December and I am getting experience right now. But my goal was to head for an RN and now that I am working in this setting and field, just not sure anymore. I mean working with people on a daily basis is what I love to do. But RN gets way more dirty work than a CNA does even though we do alot of dirty work don't get me wrong. It is a hard job and to my opinion under paid! I have been looking for more careers in the healthcare field because I just love to be in it somehow. What do you suggest to look at? I have been looking at Ultrasound tech and Rad Tech. Something more technical that still has to be in the health field. I just am so unsure of what I want to continue to do. I thought for sure RN was it for me no changing back. Just venting on here I dont know if any of yall have encountered the same thing.

I think RNs in nursing homes have it pretty good. Grant it, they ARE busy but they don't do the "dirty work."

They do skin assessments, pass meds, neuro checks, injections. Its not too bad if you go the long-term care route

Maybe you feel this way because of the hard work of being a CNA. Please don't be dejected. Actually start clinicals and nursing courses...its a whole new world to the CNA work. Trust me.

When I got my CNA certificate and started working as one did I realize how vastly different nursing is to doing CNA work. I don't even "think" about what I'm doing day-to-day as I'm lifting, turning patients, feeding, bathing, etc.

Thanks Tonight i felt that feeling again which got me here in the first place as a cna. I am bilingual and when I am able to translate for people I get a feeling of satisfaction. Which means I love helping. Yes this CNA job is hard because you do alot of dirty work. I will be looking into it more thouroughly. :nurse:

I think you will feel valued and fulfilled if you do anything "hands-on" in the healthcare field, but you may want to go with something that pays enough for you to live comfortably... Radiology, respiratory therapy, cardiovascular technology (non-invasive or invasive), RN, etc...

You will have to take pre-reqs, but you already have your foot in the door, so pray about it. Ask around. Do some research.

Why is there a poll?
