I'm an old Aussie RN... Where to start with studying for N-clex?

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

I don't have a date to do my exams, but because I haven't studied for a nursing exam in nearly 20yrs, I thought I better get a head start!

Which books are essential?

Any helpful online websites?

Do people sell any of their used books on this site?

Just thinking about studying for this makes me break out in a sweat!

Hi Tia..

goodluck on your journey..,

me too im an international graduate and it's hard to cope up with studying nclex...

in my case, i enrolled in a review class in Kaplan, they offer a review for international students...

here in the forum, Saunders comprehensive review book is the most recommended book for the content, as well as the book of Lacharity...and the nclex4000 for the practice test...

some people here sell their books, but u can also check it on amazon for a cheap prize, in barnes and nobles you can rent books you can check on their website, as well as on the library on your local area they have review books you can borrow for free...

just hangout here in the forum you will learn more especially on the sticky thread on FACT THROWING...and people here are very supportive on you...

Good luck,

Hi!

Thanks for your reply, and I appreciate the info.

Will look into all of your recommendations

Oh, and the TIA meant 'thanks in advance'!!!

im sorry west aussie RN...

also read some previous threads, they are very helpful too..

If you have the opportunity to take a review class, you might find that helpful. If not, just get a review book and dig in. One that most people find helpful is Saunders Comprehensive Review. You will also be helped with studying Linda LaCharity's book on prioritization. The Kaplan review book gives good test taking strategies. Good luck with you preparation.

Tho I havn't been out of uni as long as you have been (5.5 years ago), I think studying on your own is feasible. Your years of experience is definitely a BIG plus in preparation for the exam. If you feel like doing review classes, I say go for it but they are a little pricey (one of the main reasons why I didn't) and really not necessary.

I will post the link to the thread I created, where I listed all the books and online links that I used to study for NCLEX-RN. I would recommend the "Davies' Q&A NCLEX RN" and LaCharity's book. Might you have asked earlier, I would have offered you these books but someone else own them now.

Goodluck!

Hey all

Aussie trained
RN
here too. I'm about to get my ATT and planning on taking NCLEX soon. Just started on reviewing seriously not long ago, I really just want to just take it once (as all of us takers hope to do).

BTW, I'm in FL. Got here on fiance visa and married my American man end of last year. Long distance love for 4 long years ...lol.I just finished my hurdles with the immigration proccess, so now I'm starting with my NCLEX journey.

I'm using Kaplan books that I inherited from a friend but I think it is a little outdated. I'm kinda hesitant to go straight to practice questions. So I'm going through contents first.
Is it worth going straight to Q's???

How do guys go bout it?

Hi Crystelle and TabithaB,

Hi Girls, Im Belinda, an Aussie also looking at moving to the US this year (FL) with my American Husband of 6 years...however I dont yet have a nursing qualification..Have been excepted into Aussie Uni (Externally) and an Enrolled 12 month nursing program..After reading through your conversations between each other I would love to get in touch with either of you to ask a few questions regarding Nursing in the US. I come across these forums as I was trying to find out more info Re: either studying for Enrolled Nursing (I was thinking to hopefully work there in the US faster) then continue with the RN Online external program.. Or just start the RN Nursing program and get that underway. Seems like you girls have both had problems in regards to getting the Credentials Evaluation Service, Nursing and Science Course by Course Report to except your Aussie degree subject for subject here in the US. This is whats concerning me.. Do you think it be the same if I came over there to the US as an Aussie enrolled nurse do you think (trying to transfer to LPN)? Otherwise do you think If just do the degree I would have the same problem also..??? Thinking of doing the degree externally through Charles Darwin or Enrolled through Australian Nurses Federation.

Cheers Girls!! Would love to hear from you!! :)
