As a nursing assistant, sheriff (LVN).
Its been a LONG process, about 2 years.
I've been a psych nurse for 3 years and all that hard work has paid off.
From the written, to the oral exam (placed in band 1 with a 100%), to the background to the medical it has been an exciting journey.
Thanks to this board for all the advice, I start orientation in September and I'll find out which jail and shift i'll be placed in.
My salary has been quoted and i'm more than pleased, any questions i'll be glad to help you out!
Hi @Psych LVN! Thanks for posting this. I hope there is still some activity in this thread. I will be attending a Hiring Hall in San Diego on January 23rd and I wanted to ask you of what to expect and the following actions after the interview. I am currently in a dilemma whether to start applying to some facilities (since I have no assurance of how soon I will be hired after the interview) or to just wait for the Detention Nurse opportunity. Any input regarding this will be appreciated. Thanks!
I go tomorrow for a Hiring Hall in San Diego, was that part of your process? I have no clue what to expect, and it is my first nursing interview!! It says background orientation, background investigator, and possible job interview.

@ pt.pantoja.alex : How did your interview go? I hope everything went well. Can you please give me an insight to how your interview was and if you're already hired, how long did you wait after interview until they reached out to you for the next part of the hiring process. I will really appreciate your time responding to this. Thanks!

You are working with criminals, but that doesnt mean it has to be stressful. They are just like anyone else, just have less to lose. It's dangerous, but not worth stressing over.
LASD does do a pension plan for officers, I have to assume they do one for nurses too. Benefits are amazing.
