As a nursing assistant, sheriff (LVN).

Its been a LONG process, about 2 years.

I've been a psych nurse for 3 years and all that hard work has paid off.

From the written, to the oral exam (placed in band 1 with a 100%), to the background to the medical it has been an exciting journey.

Thanks to this board for all the advice, I start orientation in September and I'll find out which jail and shift i'll be placed in.

My salary has been quoted and i'm more than pleased, any questions i'll be glad to help you out!

I cant PM. I have to write 15 topics apparently. Oh well. Im going to twin towers for the tour. What they told us was "if youre ok with the working environment, well give you the background packet"

Did they do a polygraph on you? Im reading some message boards that some ppl got that. I was in the military and had some crazy training but never a polygraph lol.

How are the benefits? Is it guaranteed hours? Ive been hired places that seem so great until youre flexed off all the time. Im an LVN

Oh sorry one more lol, whats your work day like? is it 8s or 12s? Is it like a clinic setting? or do you go to the cells?

Thanks!

Twin is the newest jail if you want to see the real jail go to mens central jail.

Background takes pretty long so try to get that asap, no polygraph theyre pretty easy with nursing. But some of my coworkers did get polygraphed.

Benefits are free, if you are a family of 3 or more youre given like $1400 to spent on benefits a month (kaiser, blue cross, etc)

And family of just you and your spouse or you obviously is less money.

So the benefits are great.

This is the county, we will ALWAYS have patients and hours. You work 8hrs, alternating weekends on/off, no set schedule.

As an LVN we mainly do pill call and we usually "walk the rows" with custody delivering cell to cell, or sometimes they come out and you lock the front cell or in big dorms (300+ patients) they open a window.

Congrats! I have been wanting to get into correctional nursing too.

Congratsss!!!! thats awesome. I am an RN, with a year experience in a surgical center, nowhere acute. I recently went for the jail tour and I absolutely loved it. They sent me a packet for the background check and I am scheduled for the interview on Jan 3. How long did it take from the day you went for the background interview to your clearance to start? I am actually a bit nervious for the background interview, bc I just cant imagine how it is. My background is pretty clean, Im only 23, didnt have time to mess it up much. I just have a fire on me when I was 16, but it was nothing bad. I was able to get unemployment. Do you think that will be an issue?

And I totally agree with you, I loved the MCJ over the twin towers. If you want a real jail experience you have to be in MCJ.

Thats great congrats! As long as you are truthful during your interview you'll be fine plus that was 7 years ago.

Remember address them as sir and or ma'am and dont sit till asked.

Emphasize your family, future, and continuing to progress with your career and place in band 1!

I placed in band 1, 100% and it took 6-8 months. Just be patient any other questions msg me

Thank you for the response,

Its weird to say I was not placed in Band 1, but I got called in 2 days, which was way before any of my band 1 friends were called.

Im keeping my fingers crossed. This has been such a long process but there is not much left. Hoping by summer I will start :))

okay i am a bit confused. today was my background interview. When i went in for the interview i was notified that there will be a polygraph test, so they give me 3 packets to fill out completely with all honestly. and so i did. once she came back she went over all the questions and verified each question with me, and at this time she was recording me. after that was all done, they took me for fingerprinting. after fingerprinting they told me i am done, i asked them when the polygraph will be conducted she seemed confused as to why i needed a polygraph and she told me you are done you may go home. I was wondering if you know how the polygraph was going to be conducted. is it some other day? or are they not going to do it?

They probably said you need to fill out these packets incase they do need to polygraph you, you get all those packets of drug use, character etc.

For the most part you wont have to take a poly as long as you were honest with your B.I. Those packets are just to reference incase they do need to poly you.

Good luck, youre almost there. If everything goes well next is your medical!

thank you so much, that makes more sense. I was as honest as i can be and plus i have nothing at all in my background. btw did they make you sign the form that states they may place you in any location and put you in any shift? and if they did, did they still place you close to home?
