So i just recieved my final grades and I received:

A&P- A

Eng Comp - A

Soc - A

Psych- B

Overall, including my other classes, I have a 3.86 GPA. Now, I would consider myself borderline obsessive with my grades( as most of us are). However, I was really shooting for the 4.0 and now thats out the door. I'm disapointed with the B and now I am slightly worried that the B in Psych will affect my chances of getting in the program. I am applying next semester for the nursing program. I guess I'm asking if I should be worried or just shrug it off, and see what happens. I'm sure there are people out there that got into the program without a 4.0 but that would've looked pretty sweet on the application. Anyway, thoughts anyone?

How competitive is the program that you're applying to? How heavily do they weigh pre-reqs vs overall GPA vs science GPA?

At my school a B in Psych wouldn't hurt you. There were people getting C's in A&P1 who were perfectly satisfied with that grade. We have to have a 2.5 GPA to get accepted, but generally, it's all about when you put your name on "the list".

Well, from reading the posts on here, the program I am applying to is not nearly as competitive as others. From what I understand, about 120-150 people apply each semester and I believe 35 people are accepted. So more or less 1 out of 4 are accepted. Now, as far as the pre-reqs, I know they base all the grades on a points system and consider other factors, which I am not too familiar with. My academic history is pretty good I would say. I guess, just like everyone else, I am worried and wondering if I am going to get in. Now, I am a guy, so I am wondering if they have a certain amount of guys they "must" accept inorder to fair and such. Kinda a "behind the scenes" quota they must fill. If thats the case then that is on my side but I still have the grades to back myself up.

I guess it just depends on where you apply. I went to an info session at the University of Washington, which is the #1 nursing school in the country, and the admissions director mentioned that in all of her years at the UW, she has never seen anyone with a 4.0 be admitted into the program. They really value the "well-rounded" applicant.

Remember, grades are just one part of who you are. Good luck!

I our system you get points for volunteer work, health field experience, disadvantage background, bilingual and resident.

I hate reading about people like you becuase I assume all you want to hear is "OMG your GPA is amazing!"

Well, your problem is that you assume what I supposedly want to hear and you've never met me and YOU don't know me. God forbid that I am worried about my grades. I am clearly asking for advice hence the reasoning anyone is on this site. I didn't say anything about how my GPA is AMAZING, nor did I imply that I am better than anyone else. But, now that you mention it, it is a pretty good GPA, so thanks for your compliment.:yeah::D:yeah:

You sound just like me when I applied. I was and still am a little obsessed with grades. I had all A's and one B+ (our university uses the +/- and its quite serious). When I was reading your post I thought it was odd that you're not familiar with how the admission process goes. When I was applying, I attended a couple advising sessions on how exactly it was going to go. That eased my mind a bit. I suggest you do the same. Find out how exactly the university's admission process work and that will ease your curiosity. Good luck!

I totally feel your pain FloridaTrail2006!

I had a 4.0 and was sick to my stomach when I guess-timated I might get a B in College Algebra (I was guaranteed a C if I maintained my trend). To figure out where I would be, I played around with my GPA spreadsheet (yup, I am obsessive about them too!!) and realized, the B would have only put me to around a 3.94. I had to step back, shut up that inner panicky voice (competitive program!) and look at that number... it's still a GPA to be proud of! You need to remember that - you have worked hard for your 3.86 and even that B is still good. Look around this board and remember all those who truly struggle with their grades and count your blessings you have such a high GPA, don't let one letter get you down!!

BTW - I got an A in Algebra and I didn't believe it, honestly... I still don't. I checked the grade sheet online, literally every day after that A popped up to see if it was a mistake. I wouldn't believe it until it showed up under final grades but even now I still don't believe it.... go figure!

Thanks, it's nice to see that I'm not the only one who is obsessive about my grades. lol Thanks for the advice.

LOL! Nope you're not the only one Floridatrail2006, I am a total freak when it comes to my grades. :lol2: Very first thing I do in a new class is print out the list of assignments and fill each one in as I go along, keeping a running total... I even do a weekly update in my Daytimer!

In my English class this semester, the teacher didn't mark anything for the last month - 9 outstanding assignments! Can you believe that!? I was freaking out!! I gauge my ongoing progress by those little grades and I felt like I had no direction (or motivation for that matter). She finally got everything marked the day before final grades were due! I really slammed her in a self-evaluation she graded. In that eval I told her my writing improved in spite of the class not because of it and I was not happy that grading was so far behind. I told her it was a motivational tool I use that was taken away from me involuntarily. Thank goodness she is the only teacher who has ever done this in any of my classes! OK, enough venting! lol

Keep working hard Floridatrail2006 - your grades are GREAT, you have TONS to be proud of!! :yeah:
