I'm giving up…

So I have been trying to find a job since Nov of 2012 and I only had one interview and that's it. Yesterday night I applied to two hospitals (new grad positions) and got rejection letter today. I don't understand what they want from us. I really don't. I can't keep getting these letters with no explains of how to do better and be better. Just rejecting to reject (in my opinion). So I have decided to stop. I just can't do this. I may sound like a quitter or a cry baby but this is way too much for me. I have tired high and low. Idk what I will do now. I may leave nursing all together. Good luck ladies that are stronger than me to keep trucking.

Don't give up! I've been looking for a job since August 2011. I was contemplating on giving up as well and applied to this patient coordinator job, with the pay of $13/hr and no benefits. I made it to the interview and guess what? Got rejected! Why? Because I over qualify. I know the feeling of being seen as useless to almost every employer out there. I live in Brooklyn, NY. I've sent out hundreds of resumes, attended numerous job fairs and filled out tons of resumes. I probably got only ten rejection letters, if that. Most places don't even respond.

I understand your frustration. I always want to know: Is it because I'm a new grad? Is it because I didn't have a BSN? (I have it now.) Is it because I completed my BSN online?! Why didn't you hire me? Is there a blatant typo on my resume or cover letter?!!! SOMEBODY SAY SOMETHING!!! It's rough, I know. Try to stay positive. We worked our butts of to get to where we are now. We can't quit now. We won't waste all that time we spent studying, cramming, crying, whining. Things will turn around! Stay positive and make sure to use any connections that you have. Keep attending job fairs. Keep applying online. Check Craigslist in your area. All the best!

Thank you honey! I'm going to give it one more try and start being positive. I love nursing way too much to quit but this applying stuff is really getting out of hand.

Hello!

Have you tried applying to Wound Care outpatient facilities? How about doctor's offices? There is a lot of pressure on us new grads to get the med/surg experience under our belts, but the fact is ... there is not room enough for all of us out there. Especially here in Florida.

I will be skipping med/surg and look for a doctor's office job. I know they pay less and will be tough paying off my student loans ($40K + so far), but I'm planing on pushing forward with my education all the way to DNP. So, eventually, I'll get to the position I want and best serve my patients with the skills and knowledge I will acquire with experience and higher education.

Expand your horizons! Dare to travel new paths! :)

Is nursing in your heart and soul? Then trust God.

If He guided you through nursing school, then He has a plan for you! Keep looking, you will land where He needs you to be. I believe we're instruments of his healing work... don't give up on this important vocation.

KinkyKurlyRN, I feel you i havent been looking as long as you as you have. But its taking a toll on me. You went to school finished and pass your state board and now you can not find a job... Stay prayed up cause GOD DOES HEAR . He works on his time and has bigger plans than you envision..

Thank you all so much for responding. You all a so right that I need to just keep praying and keep positive. It's hard but you know they say God doesn't give you what you can't handle so I can do this and I will do this.

It took me 8 months to land a job...I know at least two people who waited TWO YEARS and was able to land a job...one works in a hospital, one works at a hospital.

Let someone look over your résumé and tweak it.

I have 12 years experience, and STILL couldn't get a job...most of my classmates were shocked that I couldn't land a job. I went to a career fair, waited patiently in line, and the recruiter gave me tips. Once I revised my résumé, I got phone calls, which led to interviews. One was the job I just started. Also, the process of looking over resumes, whittling them down to who is going to get hired first depending on hospital budget, etc. because we are in a recession is taking longer, but not as long as it was, but still expect to be looking for a while. In the meantime, keep tweaking the résumé, look for per diem or part time work, gain other skills, and look outside of the hospital. Once you land a job at one place, the phone begins to ring, at its from a local hospital...speaking from experience from my new grad LPN days to my new grad RN state. Keep the Faith. :)
