Discussion

I'm cramming.

After years of trying to get my eligibility and going thru the processing I finally have my test date.

I am a foreign graduate.

I have 68 days to my exam.

I graduated in 2005.

What is the best review I should get hurst Kaplan or ncsbn?

Thanks. Any study buddy put there?

I am originally from the Philippines.

Mabuhay!

Depends what you need, Hurst is more core content (simplified and really easy to learn and not boring lectures). Kaplan is more testing strategies, and i heard the content videos can be pretty boring. But they have a huge question bank, when hurst only gives you 6 tests that have 125 questions.

Don't really know anything about ncsbn... I took hurst and have my nclex next week.

Good luck and Gobless in ur exam

I think for being so far out from school, Hurst would be good.

NCSBN provides core content and questions similar to NCLEX; you can review rationales to the questions and they have the links to the sources.

I have answered questions during NCLEX that were VERY similar to the NCSBN. I known cohorts who ONLY used NCSBN and passed the first time.

If you have 68 days, go with the five week option.

To add:

The issue may not necessarily the source of the review, but how one approaches the NCLEX itself: understanding the four concepts of becoming a competent, entry-level nurse:

1. Safe, effective care;

2.Health promotion;

3.Physiological Integrity;

4.Psychosocial integrity

Will determine WHAT the question is asking you; the question may be Respiratory related-but is it a Health Promotion or a Safety, or a Physiological or a Psychosocial one? Would you know the difference and choose the BEST answer?

Once one understands the concepts of NCLEX, they can do so successfully.

Best wishes.

Thank you very much for all the info.

Just wondering where did you apply to take nclex-rn exams? How many years did you wait for your eligibility? I am also from the Philippines and trying to apply for eligibility here in CA, and I am still waiting for the result of the evaluation of BRN. And while waiting for it, I am starting to study because I felt that I have to re-learn alot of stuff from all of those years of being away from school.I graduated 2007 in Cebu. I kinda need a study buddy too, hoping you are just nearby and we can meet up.

I got denied by CA-BON so I applied here in MN but it took me time to pass the ielts.

Hurst! I loved Hurst! I went to a live Hurst review at Southern Adventist University and got 30 days access to their online material included in the $350 fee. I found that watching the videos while following along in my workbook was very effective. I failed the NCLEX-RN on my first attempt, which was embarrassing since I had been an LPN for 12 years. Everyone expected me to pass. I'm so glad I went to the Hurst review, because it became official on June 2, 2014. This former LPN is now a registered nurse! Good luck!

Just an FYI (you may know this but I met a lot of people who did not, if any of your lecture and clinicals weren't done in the same quarter/semester (like you took med/surg lecture in the fall and the med/surg clinical in the spring) California will not approve you to test. I don't know if other states do.
