I was just wondering where everyone's getting their facts about Case?? Or about the real world of nursing and ICUs outside their little box?

My ADN GPA 2.9 and my BSN 3.45 makes an average 3.1-3.2?? and my GRE 1140? both mediocre at best.

But my experience is what got me in. (8 years now). Even got me a letter postmarked 3 days after my interview!! I've done level 1 trauma, open heart, neuroICU, burn, transplant, HIV ICUs, been in 100 codes, etc, etc.

After getting my experience on staff at the highest acuity place yet Ive been to 40+ hospitals doing travel and per diem. And yes I learned and experienced 100 times more at NY Presbyterian Cornell & Columbia, Brigham & Womens in Boston & CCF then any rinky dink community hospital. (They are top ten hospitals for a reason.) And the fact they have such high acuity levels and a great learning environment I am expected to not only know everything- a good nurse does not hand it to their resident- they actually collaborate with them!! Having a huge resource in the hospital should make a nurse better- stronger &smarter!! The fact you see it as a hindrance makes me wonder.

And the fact that Im 33 and Ill be in the program must make me ancient???

It sounds actually that Case is making some right decisions about who they are selecting and that gives me a little bit more confidence about the next couple years. :)

I agree with you and I am 34... so we can be the old ones together!! I look forward to meeting you in Aug.

I liked a lot of what I saw when I interviewed at Case. It sounds like they accept a wide variety of people. I had never heard anything about them only accepting younger people until I read it on this forum. Hopefully that is not true. It was a tough decision for me deciding where to go.

I agree that a "rinky dink" community hospital is not the way to go. I was comparing a level one trauma center (500 beds) where I now work to a Level one university based hospital where I used to work (1000 plus beds, nationally ranked). I feel like I am stretched a lot more where I currently work, I have not had the residents to use as a crutch. But this is coming from a relatively new nurse, I think a veteran nurse of 8 plus years would benefit more in a university based hospital because they will see the more unique complications etc, and can actually help out the residents who often dont know what to do.

I dont think that any of the nurses I work with think that the residents are used as a crutch. We are taught to use critical thinking skills and we work together with the residents and interns. I think any nurse would benefit from a large hospital that will push and challenge them in they type of pt that they care for.

I wouldnt believe everything you read in this forum about who gets in. I am local to Cleveland and as I have said before in previous posts I know numerous over 30 students. Dont let that sway your pick. Case is a excellent school and their graduates are top notch and that is the most important thing when trying to decide where to get your education.:twocents:

I interview in two weeks, how intimidating was it? I've already met with Paul when I shadowed a CRNA couple months ago and he seems like a very nice guy but I haven't met with anyone else on the panel. Any insights?

I met with **** and ****** when I shadowed at CCF. ****was at the interview but **** was not. There were 6 or 7 there from Case and they put you at ease pretty quickly. I was able to joke with them and that really helped to relax me. Go early if you have a afternoon appt. I was at 2:50 and parking was a nightmare all the lots and decks were full and I valet parked my car at UH!!

My suggestion would be to take your time to answer the questions. When your nervous even a simple question seems hard. If they ask you the same question a number of different ways then you are not telling them what they want to hear. So change your answer!!! They asked me what I saw when I shadowed. What decisions I saw the CRNA make. They liked it that I went to CCF 2 full days to shadow and a full day at Summa. What will be my biggest challenge with grad school. I was in and out pretty fast. It really isnt that bad, and when you are done you will feel like you need to throw up and that it didn't go well, but that is normal. Good luck!!:lol2:

AltruisticRN, how was your interview at Case? Did they tell you how long until you hear about acceptance? I interviewed there last fall and am wondering if this is (finally) the last interview group -- maybe all of us who are waiting on a decision will know soon.

I'm interviewing this week but I know someone that started in Aug '09 and got one of the last seats. She interviewed late June I think so it could be awhile.

But if you haven't heard anything take it as a positive, if they didn't like you they would have already told you that.

There are always a few late notifications due to people pulling out after being accepted. In general (at least in past years) they have one big notification time. I think most people who interviewed up to this point were told they would know by late Feb/early Mar. Sooooo, if they do tell you when you should know by, please let us know here!

Which day this week is your interview?

Some of us how other acceptances that we have to send a lot of money to to hold our spots if we don't hear from Case in time!

So I felt my interview went well, everyone was very nice and I liked how they had senior students greet you. They told me that I should hear from them in a couple of weeks.

They had a stack of files like you wouldn't believe. I wonder how many people applied this year.

Oh and SCVICURN, you are so right about wanting to throw up after

Altruistic -- thanks for posting about your interview. Hopefully, all of us who are waiting will know something soon.

Found out Tuesday I was accepted. Two other people that applied from my unit got wait listed.

All of us interviewed last Thursday and had letters by this Wed.
