    Experience in CRNA school

i am in my first year and it is a 80 hour + a week committment. class days are long 11 hours - plus my hour drive home and then studying that night. it is really hard to imagine even stepping into a hospital on my days off because there is always studying to do. you have to make your priorities all school work. it is a challenge to juggle school and family but it can be done. make sure you know what fin aid is offered at the school you are applying at. take the money because books are expensive and the cost of travel and just notebooks and binders and all that crap most people don't think about. good luck!

Expensive!! $50,000 a year. All the info on cost is on their website.

I'm in at case western 2010!!! Anyone else??

It takes up to 4 weeks to hear if you are going to get an interview or not. You first have to meet the requirements of getting into Case to pursue grad study there, and then your application is off to the anesthesia department. Hang in there! :)

Hi. Good luck with your application process! I have been a nurse since 03. I have worked only critical care in SICU, MICU, SCVICU, NICU. I worked at CCF for 4 years in ther open heart ICU, and did some agency travel as well. I took the MAT not the GRE, and I have a 3.85 GPA. Good luck!! :)

That is true and I feel a bit worried about getting enough aid to survive the entire program. The money at CCF is not appealing enough to put up with the BS and torture they put the students thru for a few extra bucks. The current students I have spoken with say it all does work out with the fed loans and a Sallie Mae grad plus loan. I can only hope!!

I have been having the same issue. Looks like loans is what I will be needing to find. Wells Fargo still does private loans but the interest rate is really high. I have been told the school does a good job in the fin. aid dept to make sure we get what we need. I think what is hard is that we have to get all our money the first year.

I met with **** and ****** when I shadowed at CCF. ****was at the interview but **** was not. There were 6 or 7 there from Case and they put you at ease pretty quickly. I was able to joke with them and that really helped to relax me. Go early if you have a afternoon appt. I was at 2:50 and parking was a nightmare all the lots and decks were full and I valet parked my car at UH!! My suggestion would be to take your time to answer the questions. When your nervous even a simple question seems hard. If they ask you the same question a number of different ways then you are not telling them what they want to hear. So change your answer!!! They asked me what I saw when I shadowed. What decisions I saw the CRNA make. They liked it that I went to CCF 2 full days to shadow and a full day at Summa. What will be my biggest challenge with grad school. I was in and out pretty fast. It really isnt that bad, and when you are done you will feel like you need to throw up and that it didn't go well, but that is normal. Good luck!! I dont think that any of the nurses I work with think that the residents are used as a crutch. We are taught to use critical thinking skills and we work together with the residents and interns. I think any nurse would benefit from a large hospital that will push and challenge them in they type of pt that they care for. I wouldnt believe everything you read in this forum about who gets in. I am local to Cleveland and as I have said before in previous posts I know numerous over 30 students. Dont let that sway your pick. Case is a excellent school and their graduates are top notch and that is the most important thing when trying to decide where to get your education.

First of all it sound as if you don't like Case very much so I am wondering why you would even apply there if you feel they are so awful? Second, your facts are a bit off. I know numerous students that are well over 30 that are in school now and that were students there in the last few classes. I myself am 34, and I got in, and I hardly think I will be the old hag in the group. Also, a girl that is in the class that graduates this dec interviewed in Oct but got her letter in Feb. so there is still a 50/50 chance if you didnt get a no letter yet. In another post there were comments made about big hospitals, and I have worked at both CCF in the heart unit as well as the sicu and some smaller hosp as agency, and there is a night and day difference between them. The acuity that CCF has is way above any others. High quality ICU with really sick pt will far out shine more years a community hospital that ships away those sick pt for the nurses at CCF or another large institution to care for. They are looking at the entire picture of the candidate, and of course they want people with a good GPA because they want students that will pass boards in the end!! Also, the person with one year experience at interview time will have over a year by the time school starts so keep that in mind as the comments are made about the less than a year applicants.

Lyela, Hey!! So since I can't PM you I will just answer you here. The deal with CCF clinicals is that you will get $1000 a month plus health insurance and PTO time. After you are done with school, they will offer you a job and you will make their starting salary and you will owe them 30 months before that school money is paid off. If you can't stay, then you work out something with the CCF office and pay them off in a year. It doesn't matter if you work there or not ahead of time, you have to take the money. Have you thought UH or Summa? Are you local to the area?

Did you get in elsewhere? All CRNA programs require some kind of stats within a specific amount of time, and they all have theory. Yuck! When do you have to send in your letter of accepting their admission?

I have many friends that did the CCF clinicals and it isn't true about the pay. You owe them 30 months of service after school and will get paid the starting salary not a reduced rate. The school will send out a wish list when they start to assign clincal spots. When I shadowed and met up with Sharon and Paul I believe they said the spring is when they send those out.
