I'm Back....

I was dead set in my mind that I was gonna give up nursing and work on a business degree. My Mom just had an outpatient procedure done at a local hospital and the longer I waited, the more I realized that I am still intrigued by nursing. I'm gonna give it one more try. Wish me luck.

Good luck NikNik....with all the education options we have here locally, don't give up...just realize that some take more patience than others....get the prereqs necessary for the St. Louis Community Colleges and put your app in there. If you're deadset on a BSN program, then figure out what you need to get in there as soon as possible, understanding that everyone across the US has some kind of wait to get in to school. We're very fortunate that our CCs don't admit by lottery or weighting apps.

I with you the best!! Hang in there!! I just left the business world and don't regret it for a minute!!

WOOHOO!

I think when it is in your blood-it is there to stay! I am still at chamberlain.......dragging, this is the worst semester ever! DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT go to chamberlain. If I could change right now and somehow get credit for these nursing classes I have taken, I would do so and fast.......the class I am in is extremely hard for me, but that is not the issue....it is the staff - advisors (or should I say lack there of) and the teachers. I have had some great ones.........but this current one is not out for us as students at all. I think it stems from the fact that the state board of nursing is watching Chamberlain. They visited our school last week, our passing rate is really low also. They asked students for feedback during the visit, which was appreciated. Look at the passing rate on the state board site for Forest Park-it is at 100% and has been. I would do the extra driving if I did not have to wait on a list and take 2 years from now. Financially it would be so much cheaper for me to go there even if I have to drag it out further.....anyway, congrats on your decision!!!!!

Thanks a lot. I'm gonna give STLCC a try. I'm scheduled to take the dosage calculation next Tuesday. I heard that they offer evenings now so hopefully I can do that and still work my job for the 1st year. Yeah, that Chamberlain is something else. You may get credit for those nursing classes. I would just take my transcript to like Barnes or somewhere and ask. It never hurts. Best of luck to you!!!

Best wishes on your dosage calc test....did you take any of the Nursing Dosage classes?!?!

Please let us know how you do!! And let me know if I can help with anything!! We just started 3rd semester, but we're already doing things in prep for graduation and the NCLEX. Lord, help us all, lolol!!!

Yes, I did take the nursing math class which was very helpful. I just took the practice dosage test which is very easy (I like math). I heard that STLCC will begin offering evening classes (which is what I'm looking for) so I called Nancy at FP and she told me no. A few months ago I called Meramac and they told me yes. I'm a little discouraged again but I'll still apply and see what happens. ;)

so.......since the FP classes are days-can someone give me an example of the schedule? I have seen the cirriculum, and I do have some of the classes, but I am just wanting an idea of how many times a week at school......times/how long scheduled for clinicals?

With all the Chamberlain issues, I am trying to get additional info incase they loose accredidation-then I am back in boat A. Hopefully this will not happen to me, especially since next month I start my final year at the school......graduation for me is OCT 2008.

Paper, I saw a post somewhere on here but I forgot where. It stated that clinicals were 2x per week and you are in class like 4 days a week including labs. I think the clinical times were like from 7 - 1p. And, if you are looking for evenings, Barnes now offers their BSN Upper Division during weekend/evening hours every Spring.

Paper!

I just completed my BSN from Chamberlain. I started when it was Deaconess. The last year was ROUGH! The school has a terrible reputation now. They make you take an exit exam that is out of this world hard. Get out if you can.

I just heard it is very competitive and with my gpa, I doubt it if I'll get accepted.

Nik Nik! Long time no talk! I just finished my BSN at Chamberlain. The school is messed up. New faculty instructors are horrible & the Dean is wicked. It changed to Chamberlain when I was halfway through my degree, so i stuck it out. But by the end of August when I was done, I was and still am very disappointed with their policies, administrators & faculty. Go somewhere else. Let me know how you are doing.

I know..I strayed away for a while. I considered giving up. Just frustrated with any and everything. And no, I am not going to Chamberlain. I really want to go to Barnes but they are too competitive. I'm gonna apply at STLCC and see what happens. I'll also try Maryville. Who knows, we'll see where I'll end up. I just need to focus on getting my gpa up.

:balloons:I know it was difficult but you made it through. Congradulations!!!:balloons:

When are you taking the NCLEX?

It will be at least 4-6 weeks. I have sent all of my application info in to the state. Be prepared for the end. You have to get fingerprinted at a digital print place which costs $55.00. Then there is a two part application. The first part you have to send $200.00, this is to register you for boards; then the second part is for the actual license which is $45.00. But it's worth it. Focus baby focus!

Barnes is a good school. If you can, try to get the BSN. If in the future you want to go back to school, then you don't have to mess with bridging to the BSN. You can start your master's right away.

What do you need for Barnes GPA? Is there a test to take to enter? I'd be happy to help you. You can do this. Let me know. I am glad you are not messing with Chamberlain. Too much bad stuff going on with them right now.
