Just curious! Are there any diseases or illnesses that can prevent someone from being a nurse?

Pretty broad question, I think.
I suppose anything that will kill you before graduation...?

Is there something specific that concerns you? Having done this for years, I've come across mentally ill, ex addicts, multiple sclerosis, trached, severly obese, spinal rods from cervical down, HIV, hepatitis,
Well I'm thinking of way too many "messed up" people who were fine nurses and they all worked just fine.
But try coming to work and seeing that the kids have given you chicken pox:uhoh3:, well THAT creates a ruckus. You can't come to work with chicken pox, even if the bumps show up mid shift, employee health gets really testy with you when half the staff that wasn't immune is put on leave (before the vaccine was out). You are supposed to know in advance that you would catch it AGAIN.:trout:

If you have active tuberculosis infection (as evidenced by chest XR and cultures), this is something that could potentially prevent an individual from working with patients. Of course, the person should be able to return to patient care once the active TB infection has cleared up.
