Illinois Diazepam

Specialties School

Published

I've contacted IDPH and ISBE with no response so far...been googling with no luck. Does anyone here know if a trained staff member can give rectal diazepam for seizures in schools in Illinois? I've heard only school nurses can give it, but I can't find any proof of that anywhere. I don't think my school will be willing to pay for a sub for field trips unless we have proof that it's legally necessary.

What about schools without nurses?

ISBE sent me some laws around epilepsy and drug administration. It looks like in schools without a nurse there must be a delegated care aid who must be trained in epilepsy and trained on how to carry out the seizure action plan. ISBE suggested I review with our school lawyers.

Oh boy...you couldn't pay me enough ?
