Would you still become a nurse?

I would just like some insight from current nurses/LPN's etc to find out after now becoming a nurse and seeing the inner workings of the hospital and health profession field in general. If given the choice to do it all over again.

Would you still become a nurse?

why or why not... If not, what other profession under the health care umbrella would you persue? ;)

That's a very heavy question for me. I mean, if I could do it all over again, I would be a super-successful graphic artist/web designer/computer animator. However, I would have to go WAY WAY back to years and years before I even decided to become a nurse. I would have to go back to my first stint as a college student, when I was an art student. I would have been more serious about my art and my decision to try to be a graphic designer out of college. I would have taken more advertising classes.

But, I didn't do those things, and so even though I earned an art degree, I mostly stayed in dead end, low paying jobs until I went back to school for nursing.

Starting at THAT point =) if I honestly had it to do all over again... I think the only thing I would have done differently was stayed in school and went on to earn my BSN, just so I would have had that out of the way! In other words, yes I still would have went to nursing school.

Ditto for me. The only other thing that I would do is be a painter/artist of some sort. I've done the corporate world and that's to confining for me. Nursing fits me just right and feel blessed to have the opportunity to be a part of others lives and make a positive difference.

That's what I was going to say. My dad paid for college for me fresh out of high school. I would have become a BSN back in the Class of 81 instead of Class of 2007. Maybe I'd have a masters by now.

Anyway, no regrets on the way life turned out.

I agree with an earlier post, I would have done it a LOT earlier! If I would have started sooner, maybe by now I would have my Masters or PhD. But, I'm happy with where I'm at now, I love working with my little ones in Pedi, my co-workers and boss are awesome people. Now, if we could just get the "higher ups" to realize who much nurses do........

Yes and no. I would have ended up teaching English lit or creative writing at a university somewhere if I had not studied nursing. Or I would have ended up in med school and then working for the WHO or the CDC.

I love the sciences and literature, so definitely something related to either of those.

Nursing school was very, very hard. I appreciate the lessons it taught me. Not sure if I would go through it again though because it was hell (and I passed everything the first time and started at a young age), not to say there weren't fun times either though.

I would NOT have chosen nursing- so many other things I find interesting: enineering, sports medicine, PT, fitness trainer, dietician, animal rescue/education, health/gym teacher.

I chose nursing b/c I loved the show ER years ago & I hated my current major accounting. The only major at my CC that somewhat appealed to me at that time was nursing. I busted my butt, passed everything the 1st time, but hated nursing school by my second of 4 clinicals, thought it'd get better after graduation. Absolutely hated nursing for 1.5 years, now in an ED, ~50%-don't love or hate it. I love the sciences... but soo many negatives compared to the positives in this field, at least for me.

Earning my BSN so I can open many more door ways, sooner than later. Masters... one thing at a time:)

i think i'd still be a nurse. although, i would have rather made that decision in high school and worked a little harder. i also would have studied a little harder and would now be a braniac nurse:specs: . i think i'm a pretty good nurse where i am now,:nurse: but i always want to be better. sometimes, i want to kick myself :banghead: for not caring and taking things for granted back then:biere: . but now i think, what's done is done.:monkeydance: now i have to continue studying :studyowl: and learning and one day... but i like where i am now. :cool:

i also remember a girl in high school. she knew she was going to school to be a nurse. she told everyone. she was in my biology class. :sleep: i wonder if she did. she seemed pretty determined.

If I had it to do all over again..........so many things I would have changed. I would have gone to college right out of high school to pursue degree in either journalism or photo journalism and NOT got married to get out of the house! Right now I could be one of those famous photographers who get to travel all over the world taking pics of all the beautiful people!!! :lol2: Other than that, I wish I had had the ambition to go to nursing school 14 years ago when I got a divorce, and gotten a BSN then too. Then I would have been a BSN nurse for about 10 years instead of an ASN for 5 years. When I think of the money I would be making now............they say that hindsight is 20-20, and for me it is. There are times I hate what I do, I'm ashamed to admit I don't like cleaning poo off of adult patients, but there are times I love what I do. When a patient tells me that they are glad that I am their nurse, then I am walking on air the rest of the shift! Any place you work is going to have good and bad. The only way you are going to be totally happy with what you do is if you find a business that you work from home and be your own boss. Hang in there. You will find a job you eventually love. Just look on your days off, and don't quit your current job until you find it. Good luck.

ya, iwould still be a nurse. Ive only beena nurse for like 3 minutes but yes. I never dreamed of being a nurse but since I started I knew that I would never go to anything else. Nurses freakin' Rock. Personllay, my self confidence and attitude has been better in my personal life since becoming a nurse. I love it, but then ask e again in 10 years

I definatley would! Nursing is the only thing I've ever done that feels so worth it all. I have my good days and my bad-just like everyone else. But through it all, I can't think of anything else I'd rather be doing.

Not sure! I have only been an RN for 5 years. It was my mid-life career change!

If I play the could've, should've game, I should have finished college the first time around and got the education degree I started. The teachers in our town make and retire with boo koo bucks!

Oh well - I am happy now. I guess that is all that matters.
