I will be away from my children while in the program who also live in California but are staying with my parents. I have lived in CA for almost 3 years and will move back after I graduate from Drexel University's nursing program.
Am I qualified work in California? I tried reading on the nursing board website (CA) and it states I may have to take the NCLEX...
If you were an out of state nurse and moved to California to work as a nurse, how did you get your license?

All instructions for obtaining a CA license are given on the BRN website.
I checked it out and they did list a process that you would have to go through, but then this was also stated on the website :
"To qualify for endorsement (reciprocity) into California as a RN, you must hold a current and active license in another state or Canada, have completed an educational program meeting all California requirements, and have passed National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN) or the State Board Test Pool Examination (SBTPE). The Canadian Comprehensive Examination is not acceptable. If you do not possess these qualifications, you do not qualify for licensure by endorsement and must apply to take the examination instead."
So this is saying I must try and get license in Pennsylvania to meet the reciprocity requirement in California. If I don't then I must take the NCLEX to practice in California and then send supporting documents to finish the licensure process.
What does "meeting an educational program that meets California's educational requirement" ?
Here is the website where I got the information.

Just get an Rn license at the state which you are then endorse. Or move to Ca, take the NCLEX in CA then apply for an license.
Education requirements just mean they need copies of your transcripts to see if you did the basics, A and P, micro bio etc.
Good luck. PM me with any other Que. Its really not a hard process.

And a very complicated and bureaucratic one at that!
An accredited program in other states that leads to licensure in that state under most circumstances will satisfy the state of CA. Would not worry about making it more difficult than it has to be.
