I passed IELTS exam and I took CGFNS exam in July 12th. I'm also GC holder and I want to apply for NCLEX exam ASAP.
May I ask to CGFNS to send my transcripts and IELTS results to California Board of Nursing?
If I'll pass CGFNS exam I would have work permision as RN?

Hi! Like you, I also passed my IELTS and took the CGFNS exam last July 12. Currently I am in the process of sending my papers to the California Board of Nursing .
As regards your question, passing the CGFNS exam will not allow you to work as a RN in California. Besides, California is one of 21 states that do not require a CGFNS exam in order to apply to their board of nursing.
You may however write CGFNS to send your academic and related learning exepriences record as well as your IELTS results to the California Board of Nursing so that you may no longer need to write your school of nursing to send your academic and RLE records to the CA Board of Nursng.
In order to work as a RN in California, and for any US state for that reason, you have to pass the NCLEX-RN.
Thank you sinagbayan for your message.
Do you know how much time does it take the process of sending papers from CGFNS to the California Board of Nursing, and also how much time does it take the process of considering my application for NCLEX exam?
What for interim permit is useful?
Thank you!
If my memory serves me right, the California Board of Nursing processes papers in 4-6 months. As soon as the CA BON approves your credentials you can now apply for the NCLEX-RN exam at the pearsonvue website (www.pearsonvue.com/nclex), the test administrator of NCLEX. They will then release your ATT (authority to test) it could take a while for your ATT to be released.
By the way, as for the Interim Permit, that will allow you to work but only under the supervision of a RN. If you fail the NCLEX-RN the permit is automatically cancelled.
I hope I was of help. By the way, was the results of the July 12, 2006 CGFNS released yet?
The results of the July 12, 2006 CGFNS was released.
...well, so,... I have 4-6 mounth for preparing NCLEX- RN exam (until California Board of Nursing processes papers).
I have some NCLEX reviewers (Saunders, Mosby, Lippincott, Rudmans, Davis). Which one do you consider much useful for succeed in NCLEX- RN exam.
Thank you again.
Yeah, you sure have a lot of time to prepare. As for reviewers, I personally like Mosby and Lippincott. They seem comprehensive. But don't forget your notes from nursing school.
I'll try to handle with this books.
I finished my nursing school long time ago in Romania. There are some differences between Romanian and American nurses school.
Thanks a lot.
I get that your nursing notes wouldn't be updated then. As for me, I'm a new nurse, I just became a RN last June 2005. Good luck to us.

I am trowing in my two cents..........Ca does their own credentials review, depending on when you will be ready to write the exam, you may find it easier to apply for licensure to another state and then endorse.
I only recommend Saunder's Comprehensive Review for the NCLEX-RN and no others. It is also the best when the nurse is using English as a second language. Check out the NCLEX Dsicussion Forum located on Allnurses.com.
You can qualify for the IP, but you will find that most of the better facilities will not consider offering a job until you pass the NCLEX exam. Even though you hold a gren card, you are foreign trained.

Can someone confirm that there is no need to send official transcripts from the nursing school if the Board receives CGFNS official transcripts?
I tried to contact the Board twice with this regard, but they keep silent.
The instruction states:
The Board does not require applicants to pass the Commission on Graduates of Foreign
Nursing Schools (CGFNS) examination in order to be licensed in California. Although, if you
have been evaluated by CGFNS, the Board will accept official copies of your nursing transcripts
(including the clinical portion of your training) from this organization.
