ielts or NCLEX first?

World International Nursing Q/A

I'm a recent graduate, and I already passed the 2008 PNLE. I am planning to start taking other tests but I am thinking what do take first.

Some of my batchmates are taking the NCLEX and others, IELTS first.

Any suggestions? Which is more difficult ielts or NCLEX?

What most of you are forgetting it is not the state that has the language requirement, but the US government in order to get the visa to work in the US. And if one has a better understanding of English, then they have an easier job of passing the NCLEX exam.

Sure, the English exams are only valid for two years, but if you pass the IELTS series and then pass the NCLEX exam and get the VSC, then you are good for five years.

I would still recommend that one goes for the English first. Always have recommended that and still stick to it.

Most of you are going to be looking at close to 7 years at best to get a chance at the US, and maybe even longer, so would focus first on the English and then going to another country to actually gain experience first as well. But I still suggested the English first even when there was no wait for the visa. Many have more issues with passing the language exam than the NCLEX exam as well.

If you plan to go to USA and nowhere else, I would suggest you go for nclex first, especially if u had just graduated and passed the local boards, it will be easier for you to review and pass, considering that your theoretical knowledge is up-to-date. After passing the NCLEX-RN, you can then take your ielts which has a 2-year validity.

I know retrogression is still up in the USA now, but taking an action NOW will lessen your time of waiting to be there. Taking the NCLEX and IELTS and passing it right away is a good idea. You can start the processing of papers right after that and having your priority date as soon as possible so that by the time retrogression is lifted maybe 3-5 years from now, the time of waiting will not be that much. And throughout those years, you already have your hospital experience which will make you more qualified in the USA.^_*

I suggest you do the NCLEX first

I think it would be best to take your NCLEX first

as IELTS should be renewed every two years

If you get visa screen then you don't need to renew English exams for nearly 5 years, needs to be done before your VSC expires and with retrogression I would suggest saving money until you know things are moving forward with your application. For most you do not need VSC for employer although some may prefer it
