IDPH Rural health scholarship?

Published

has anyone else applied for this scholarship? or has anyone already received this scholarship? I sent my application in for this year but my efc is over 16k, i was just wondering what my chances might be to receive something. i wouldn't have applied for it if i didn't need it so bad. there's no way we can pay 16 k, i have 4 kids and our financial situation has changed tremendously (husband lost job).

any info you might have would be great!!

thanks

I've applied several times and have never been selected. My EFC has always been well below 1000. Would have been great, though. One of the few that I can receive and still use my academic scholarships. That would have more than eliminated any need for loans...

When I called the IDPH to ask a question about the scholarship I told the guy that my EFC is below $2,000 and his expression was, "oh yea that is very low you should defiantly apply." Then I told him my GPA which is 2.8 and he said that that may defer the committe from selecting me but that I should apply anyway b/c he doesn't know everyone's GPA and how competitive it is this year. What was your GPA?

I would suggest that you look into applying for a "scholarship" through the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) program. I'm in Springfield, and I learned about the program through my local community college. There are hoops to jump through in order to get the money, but trust me -- it's worth it. I'm a single parent, and I am only able to work a very minimal number of hours while in nursing school.

WIA funds, which are made available through the county office at the Sangamon County building (in Springfield), is paying for all of my tuition, as well as gas expenses, textbook purchases, uniform purchases, and some child care expenses as well. No payback is required.

It's definitely worth a look. There is no service commitment after you graduate either, so this will free you up to be able to continue your schooling if you wish.

Keep in mind that WIA will only pay for 2 years of school, but my understanding is that it will pay for an ADN program OR a BSN program, depending upon the school you're going to.

My friend and I both applied for this scholarship back in June. And 2 weeks ago she received an email stating she was not selected. Last week I received a letter that I was chosen for the scholarship. All I know at this time is I signed about 10 different contracts basically saying I would maintain at least a C average and work in the state of Illinois for a year within 6 months of receiving license. Once they receive the signed contracts they send an award letter to my school. I know they pay so much in tuition and living expenses. Hope this helps.

Hi everyone. I am new to this site and received a private message and am not sure how to reply back. Anyway to answer the question, my GPA was 3.64 and the deadline was May 31 not June. If anyone else has received this scholarship please let me know.

I received the scholarship for 2007 and will be receiving it this year as well. It really helps a lot! They send a check to the school and a "living stipend" check to you as well.

Hi, DESTINYCNRA

Am about to apply for the practical nursing idph scholarship. i saw that you were selected in 2007 i was wondering what transcript did you send? did you complete your pre-requisite prior applying or it does not matter? cant wait to read you:heartbeat

My GPA 3.70 when I applied last year by May'09. I got a email saying I was not selected in August, 09. Then I got another email this January, telling me I was selected. I received my check already. Hope this help! :)

I am sorry to be naive, but my EFC is 3507 does that mean I have to pay $3507? do you think I may qualify?
