ICU NURSE TRAVELING TO Charleston

U.S.A. South Carolina

Looking into traveling to South Carolina - Charleston area. Any recommendations for hospitals? What is the cost of living/ pay rate/ nurse pt. ratios (ICU)

:nurse:

I am a 2nd semester BSN nursing student at MUSC. I have lived in Charleston now for 6 years - graduated from CofC in 2006, worked at MUSC for 1 1/2 as a CNA, and am now in school. That is so awesome that you are coming to Charleston. This place is amazing....I love it so much. I have had experience working at the various hospitals around the Charleston area through school. I personally would recommend MUSC (not just b/c I go there either)! Roper overall has very bitter employees, CMH is just a really gross place to work, St. Francis would be my second choice after MUSC.

The cost of living here is pretty high. I don't know the exact numbers but you can type in "cost of living comparisons" into google and it will give you websites that will help.

Good luck!!!!

Please don't generalize about other facilities employees. It isn't fair and it may just influence someone who would make a good staff member.

Ok....wow. I'm sorry about that. Prolly was not a nice thing to do, you're definitely right, but was just trying to help.

LPN here, but my daughter worked at MUSC as a NICU nurse for many years and loved it. Great pay and many benifits. MUSC is a teaching hospital and highly recommended. This has been at least 8 years ago and her wages as an R.N. were close to the $34 on hour at that time.

You have to include her benifet package also. It is someplace to look into.

The new ART hospital at MUSC is awesome!! I had my clinical there as well and it was so much fun to work there. There were a few travel nurses there to if I remember.

I have heard that South Carolina has a slow turn around when applying for travel positions, do you find this true? I have been waiting on MUSC for about 2 weeks now, so far i haven't heard of any other ICU available in the Charleston area. I find this hard to believe, but i really want to come to the area...
