when you say ICU management... is this for a management course (as in advanced degree) or a basic nursing course?

Two things--Don't go in acting like you know everything because a) the nurses will probably not be nice to you and b) it just doesn't look good. Secondly--always ask questions if you're not sure! Nursing is literally life or death and you can bet your bottom every single nurse has asked questions more than once!! Good luck

LISTEN TO WHAT THE NURSES HAVE TO SAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!... Yes, I know it is in all caps, BUT!!!! We as staff R.N.s get tired of voicing our concerns to deaf ears... The second, and just as important... DO NOT LIE TO YOUR STAFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Enough said, before I get on a soap box and really sound off.
To clarify... I am a student (not an RN yet) this is focused placed rotation, and it's our last rotation. So we will work exclusively with a preceptor.
Thanks for all the advice so far. On the regular floors, the nurses usually were way too busy for questions from us. I hope that changes in ICU. I'll feel more comfortable "re-testing the waters" since you all seem to encourage asking questions. I don't know who this preceptor will be.
In ICU, you'll be busy too--just a different kind of busy. You can learn SO much from the other nurses--both good and bad. Don't forget that!
