I wonder if allnurses is...

..the reason why people decide to go into nursing. And what if they had a blogging board for school guidance counselors, teachers, police officers, and the like if that too would spur an interest in those fields.

I'm just wondering.

Not me. I had very different motivations and came to AN independent of those. :)

I've known long before I came to AN that I wanted to be a nurse. Some of the stories I read on here... make me question that decision.... lol

I have to take a break from this site every once in a while, the negativity wears me down. I totally get that people need a place vent, and support eachother with common frustrations, and this forum is so good about that. But I'm stressing out enough over school, I don't need to be worrying about all the other negative stuff yet.

I am a teacher, my daughter is a nursing student. Ironically enough I love allnurses and she never visits the site. A teacher's forum.... boring!!:eek:

I do believe this site has everything one might need - sometimes people have a hard time navigating and assume it isn't there, or feel a small sample of threads is a measure of the entire site. Sometimes people will actually say this site makes them not want to be a nurse "if nursing is filled with you people", lol. :) I like the diverse types of people who contribute.

Hope your daughter is happy with her choice so far! I remember when you were here asking questions as she was deciding what path to follow.

My daughter is finishing up her junior year towards her BSN and loves it. She care-partners (nurse's aide) at the university's hospital in the CICU and loves that as well.

She has one more year to go and I'll be the proudest mom.

I came to all nurses because I wanted to ask a question for a school assignment. Needless to say, the first few days reading through all the posts in the General Nursing section opened my eyes to all the rotten stuff in nursing. I asked myself, what in the world did I get into? Had I encountered all nurses before I started nursing school, I would really question my choices.

Agreed. I'm glad I didn't start reading until I was a year into nursing school, otherwise I would have ran for the hills! I understand people need to rant about stuff, but I disagree with 90% of it. Nursing school and nursing isn't that bad, you guys.
