I went to a Florida nursing school

I went to a nursing school in Miami Florida that is approved by the Florida board of nursing. I took my RNnclex on April 1, 2023 and have yet to receive my license. I contacted the New YORK board of nursing and the response I received was " Unfortunately the school you attended is listed on the Florida DOH website as non-accredited, a supervisor is looking into this matter. Does this mean I won't get a license to practice in NY.

Per discussions in this thread, NY BON has not granted licenses in 2023 to those who attended FL approved but unaccredited Florida nursing schools as not meeting NY state education standards  nor Floridas if school has been in existence prior to 2019.

Florida BON regulations require that a nursing program acquires nursing program accreditation under Section 464.019, Florida Statutes.

Quote

ACCREDITATION REQUIRED

(a) A nursing education program that prepares students for the practice of professional nursing, that was approved under this section before July 1, 2014, and that enrolled students before July 1, 2014, must become an accredited program by July 1, 2019.

(b) A nursing education program that prepares students for the practice of professional nursing and that was approved under this section before July 1, 2014, but did not enroll students before that date, must become an accredited program within 5 years after the date of enrolling the program's first students.

(c) A nursing education program that prepares students for the practice of professional nursing and that is approved under this section after June 30, 2014, must become an accredited program within 5 years after the date of enrolling the program's first students.

(d) This subsection does not apply to a nursing education program provided by an institution that is exempt from licensure by the Commission for Independent Education under s. 1005.06(1)(e).

(e) A nursing education program that fails to meet the accreditation requirements shall be terminated and is ineligible for reapproval under its original name or a new program name for a minimum of 3 years after the date of termination. An institutional name change or the creation of a new educational institution with the same ownership does not reduce the waiting period for reapplication.

Therefore, chance of obtaining NY license and practicing in NY is low.  Florida is still granting licenses, will need to contact them to get NCLEX results released --info in above thread.

Check NY BON advisory notices for further info:

  • Operation Nightingale and Florida Nursing Education
  • Notice to Graduates of Certain Out-of-state Programs

@JBaltazar Hello, I'm seeking the same information. I've been calling Nybon since May 4th, but they haven't given me much information outside of telling me " I don't know. It's under review". When I called the FL BON, I was told that they could give me re-entry to take the NCLEX again. I don't understand why NY would allow us to test if they were planning on holding our licenses. I could've and most certainly would have tested elsewhere. I went through hell and fire to pass the NCLEX, and to have to take it again because of inconsiderate dishonest individuals in South Florida is crazy. I'm literally in debt because of nursing school. Now I'm basically begging to receive a license that I earned.

Have you heard anything back?
