I took the NCLEX

Nursing Students NCLEX

Hi everyone, I was wondering if I can get your expertise on something. I took the NCLEX yesterday and my exam stopped after the 80th question or somewhere around there. I know the last question, i'm almost certain i got correct. Does the exam shut off and fail people in cases where people get the last question correct?

The exam shuts off when you have answered enough questions to either fail or pass. For some random test takers the exam keeps going to the very end. You cannot tell until you get your results, but if you are 200% sure that you got the last one right, you probably passed.

my test shut off at 75 questions, and let me tell you even though I knew it could shut off at 75, I still wasnt expecting it. I didnt even remember the question. LOL. Of course I stressed and freaked out. I waited my two days and let me tell those were the longest 48 hours of my life. haha. However, I did pass!!!!!!

Best advice, you did the best that you could and that all that anyone ever asks. Just relax until you get your results and stop analyzing your questions (it will only drive you crazy). Try to enjoy the time until you get your results. I wish you luck!!!!

Way too many factors to consider here to predict a pass/fail result just based on the last question. It's a widely-held myth though.

The other myth that comes up from time to time is that candidates are randomly selected to receive all of the questions. Not true, but the myth will not die. :)

Here's a link to the NCSBN website with some frequently asked questions about the exam. The NCSBN creates the exam and issues quite a bit of information regarding test procedures and scoring.

I just want to say to "EricEnfermero" my sister took her NCLEX last year and got 265 questions. Like a week later she got a letter in the mail from the BON and it was thanking her for being a part of their survey type test. It said whoever sat at this one computer would automatically get 265 question because that were testing people anxiety of long test! Thats CRAZY!!

None of the state BON's administer the NCLEX.

I'm sorry I meant Pearsonvue!

The NCSBN is the organization that creates the NCLEX and conducts research into test methodology and student performance. PearsonVUE is simply the contractor that gives the exam. It would jeopardize PearsonVUE's contract with NCSBN if they administered the exam in a format not consistent with the NCSBN's test plans.

BON, Pearsonvue, or whoever - it doesn't matter to me. I was just telling you what I read in the letter about the "survey" type test!

Sorry!

The NCSBN's stance on that is spelled out in post #4.
