I took NCLEX 2 days ago and I failed

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

I took NCLEX 2 days ago and I failed :(.. After 3 months of reviewing with Kaplan and Saunders 5th ed. I don't know what to do now. I'm really devastated, my wife was crying and I'm lost on where to begin. I got a lot SATA questions, like 40+ and test ended at 89.

It was hard and the questions where not really that familiar. Hoping to redeem myself and take it this Dec.

Dont worry I am positive you will pass it next time. I took it twice, the first time I failed at 75 questions so I really felt like a performed badly and was sad for a while. But I allowed myself to be sad for a little while then I took the test again 4 months later and I passed. What helped me with SATA was to take each answer and see if it is true or false. If it is undoubtably true you pick that answer and dont ever second guess your choices. Also taking a break helped me, I had my favorite snack then I felt better and recharged to continue testing. You can do it!

I'm so, so, so sorry. Please, whatever you do, just don't give up.

I heard good things about NCSBN (they have a 3 week program for about $50, which is pretty reasonable compared to the prices of the other programs out there.) They are the "makers" of the nclex too, so my guess is that it would be very beneficial.

There is also a study guide on here (if you search for it, it should show up, you might have to dig a little.) I used it for the nclex PN recently. (I believe it's more geared toward the nclex RN though. =) I basically took out some of the out-dated stuff and fixed some of the very little corrections it needed, and it made a great study guide. I also used it alongside the kaplan content review guide which is available for free on amazon (via kindle which you can also download on your computer or phone for free.) Together it worked great.

I used the PN version, BUT there is an RN version which people speak highly about by lippincott called: nclexRN alternative format questions. Which really helps show you how to answer those types of questions etc. It's difficult as far as questions go (as every single question in the book is an alternative format question) but it really helps you get used to answering those style questions etc.

Also on scribbed (you can join for free without paying the 9.99/month) you can search in documents for nclex related stuff and sometimes (not often) but sometimes you hit a "diamond in the ruff", just remember to use it as an addition to your actual study guides and not vice versa (I almost got swept up in that.)

Don't stop trying, I think you really have it in you. I am confident that in the next month or two that you will be posting about how you just passed the nclex RN and we will all be congratulating you.

You can/and WILL do this!!!

I too did not pass on my first attempt, it was devastating, I was so lost. I took 2 weeks off from doing any questions or studying to decompress. When you are ready, re-register with Kaplan. They have an online "Classroom anywhere" you can take and the lady who taught my class explained things differently and helped me understand. I re-watched the Kaplan videos so I could strengthen my content and paid for a month of simplenursing.com, and I watched Michael Linares videos. You can also watch some of them on you tube, he explains things differently and it also helped. I also purchased LaCharity Prioritizing and Delegation book, which has helped a ton with knowing who to see first. You have 45 days or so before you can retest so when you are ready, get back at it and build your knowledge and test taking strategies skills. YOU CAN DO IT!!! You graduated from nursing school and you can pass the NCLEX too! Good Luck and think positive!

Kaplan extends for 90 days

I just read some comments on here. I truly feel sir, wait until you get the results in mail with your report. Focus only ok what you're weak on and purchase the Saunders questions or download the program and do only the select all that apply. Have you taken a look at the study guide posted 35 page one ?

Read it again. Practice more questions. The books i have right now are kaplan, saunders, hesi, lacharity, and examcram. You can do it. Dont give up. You'll be an RN one day. Just know it. Good luck!

I believe questions > content applies for the nclex. But if you do run into things that you don't recognize or not too familiar look it up in the book.

Develop good test taking strategies as well.

Thank you for the kind words and encouragement that you have given. People here are like my support team. I will definitely use and remember all your tips and techniques. Right now I'm trying to relax and find my self. Planning to go out of town to reduce the stress and live life normally. You may all have the blessings because you are all good people.

Do whatever you need to do.. But then when you come back.. And you better.. Go twice as hard. Look at me.. Im gng in to take it the 4th time around. Believe me.. I never and i mean never expected a person like me who was always an A student expext to fail and fail 3x already.. But it happened.. It is what it is. You just gotta know your stuff. Study areas where u are weak. And just keep practicing answering questions. Thats what im doing now. Im changing my strategy on how i stidy. Hoping to pass it this 4th time around.. Dont feel bad.. You will be an rn one day. Just know it.
