I thought my boss was gonna back me up on this one- NOT !

all i can say is that i can't wait until my last day... eight more days... eight more days. i'm sick of working in the health room full time and sick of the adm. not asking me about anything but telling me instead.

for example: one of the kindargarners have been having major behavior problems lately so thus they send him to the hr to " cool down" , so i say fine as long as its just these few times. the only problem i've had is when he gets restless and starts wandering around the hr where i can't see him or when there are sick kids in the hr and he's taking up space.

so today his teacher comes in and says " for now on johny will be coming to the health room every day to take a nap" i was like : what ?. thank goodness my boss was here so i directed the teacher to her. however, my boss said nothing. i spoke up and said " what about the sick kids who need to rest"? since my boss didn't back me up, i made it clear to the both of them that if there are sick kids in the hr and they need to rest the sick kids will take priority. they both understood. i still can't see how they ( principal and teacher) can have a meeting about this and not think once to ask me what i think until after the fact.

so now i have to babysit this kid every day and have to take xtra to wake him and get him up if just in case another kid thats sick need to lie down. i also brung up the fact that he may be exposed to illnesses if he's resting in the hr q day, where sick kids are. as always my hands are tied and all i can do is come here and vent. :angryfire

i have another exam. 3rd grade boy is now " required" to use the hr bathroom q day due to pooping on the floor in the boys bathroom. so i'm like great ! now he can poop on the floor in the hr br too ! he does have an escort with him to look after him, because there is no way i'm going to be responsible for that !

i just keep telling myself that 8 more days and i won't have to deal with all this crap at the school. its just been one of those days. :o

Wow. Let my principal try that one with me. I cannot believe your RN did not back you up on this! This is not fair to the other students, to this student, or to you! I would add to your requirement that he not be there if sick kids are in the room, that he also will not be there if he gets up from the cot or disrupts the HR. I am glad you only have to deal with this for 8 more days. You can make it!

Thanks purple scrubs ! I do have a lovely supervisor, but because she's only here a total of 7 hours a week, I think she loses sight that I'm here MOST of the time and I'm the one that have to put up with this. You're right, I will add these to my requirements. I'm the type that pick in choose my battles wisely,:argue: on the inside I was fired up mad, but on the outside I just smiled to them and said " ok" and I'm thinking to myself just 8 more days. Now 7 ! :D

I agree with you regarding the student just coming in to the HR for a nap-not an appropriate use of the Nurses Room. What would happen if you had to leave the nurses office to go to a student who had fallen/had a seizure etc? Who would watch that student?

I disagree with you about the third grade student with bowel problems-obviously this child has some issues. I assume that you have already investigated all potential problems that this behavior is associated with-physical, mental, abuse issues etc and that you have provided input as well as a school toileting plan.

When I have a student who (for whatever the reason) is incontinent of bodily fluids/solids, the bathroom in the nurses office is always used. This is not only for the protection of other students,but also to protect this student's privacy.

i disagree with you about the third grade student with bowel problems-obviously this child has some issues. why do you disagree with me ? this child does not have any bowel or incontinence problems of any kind ! one time he pooped on the br floor due to his insurbordination and now he has to use the hr br. i have a student now who has a real incontinence issue and the top supervisor even had a problem with her using the hr br as part of her br regimen. now that i can understand and we have made accomendations for her to use the br in the hr despite of what the top boss of health services said. assume that you have already investigated all potential problems that this behavior is associated with-physical, mental, abuse issues etc and that you have provided input as well as a school toileting plan. this is strictly because this kid wanted to be funny and he pooped on the br floor. he has a teacher watch him use the br anyway so why can't she watch him in a normal br for the kids. ?

I had a similar issue back at middle school 3 years ago. What I did was request an ARDS meeting where we all sat down to discuss the kid's behavior with parents, a few teachers, asst. principal, counselor, diagnostic person. I spoke up and said, " the HR only has 2 beds and 3 chairs if it gets crowded or I get busy what then?" The mother said, he can go to the nurse 1st and if it gets full, give him a pass to the counselor and then the library and then the asst. principal and if he got out of hand--call his parents. 15 minutes at each station. We all agreed and signed the ARDs paper. I felt relieved. OF course the librarian and counselor came to the HR often to grumble about it, but hey we all shared in on the HA. He doesn't have to lay his entire body down to take a nap, he can lay his head down on a table.

That sounds like a wonderful idea. But at my school I'm lucky enough to even be notified about their decision making, let alone being able to be in a meeting.

Update - Today was the students first day taking a nap in the HR and of course this whole thing has worked my nerves already !

First I get called by a teacher to the playground due to a child falling and not being able to walk. So as I was running down to the playground the teacher of the student who is suppose to nap stops me and says " He's on his way" I reply " ok, but I can't be in there right this second, because I have to respond to an injury on the black top"

So I'm in the HR treating the injury and she interrupts what I'm doing to get the student on the cot to rest. I almost snapped at her ! I wanted to say : I'm treating an injury right now, your student who needs to nap is least on my priority list right now. But I didn't.

I did send him back to class after 3 minutes though, because I heard some paper crumbing so I go over to the rest area and find him standing between the wall and the cot playing. He was not safe and because the cots are not in my field of vision while I'm at my desk, I decided that he needed to go back to class. I don't mind him napping but I won't allow him to play in the HR and be unsafe.

no way, no how, would i let this happen in my hr. let him nap at his desk. i feel so bad for you. what they are doing to you is wrong ! i feel for you. :crying2:

So just now they sent another student to the HR to sit down. The secretary comes in and says can Johny sit in here for a while... I say why ? she replies " because he's ancy" I was like no thank you, but ofcourse she sent him in here anyway ! I'm sick of baby sitting these kids ! Well just 7 more days and I'm outta here ! Atleast I have tomorrow off and Friday there are no kids.

For some reason this year have been very difficult for me. If I wasn't leaving so soon, I would call a meeting with my boss and the admin. because there is no way I should be held accountable for baby sitting these kids. I guess the next health aide will have to set them straight, but I'm so over this.
