I can't seem to do right on my test... I have just failed my third one... :o I really feel like I don't belong here at all... Everyone seems to be happy and doing well and fitting in...and I just don't see myself deserving to be in this program... I really don't think I am going to make it...

Don't give up if you heart is in it. Think positive. :balloons:

I know how discouraged you feel. I felt like I didn't "fit" as well. I think it's all about learning how to take those darn tests. They're so much different from any type of test I have ever taken. Do you have quite a few more left to take this semester? If so...don't worry too much about failing out. If you have an NCLEX book.... practice, practice, practice taking those types of questions. How bout' a study group? I tend to do better just studying with one other person or alone.... but maybe that could help. Dont' give up!

(((hugs)))

Since you have failed 3 tests, you need to ask for help right now. Go to your instructor or a counselor and tell them you need help. Most nursing schools have extra resources to help students who are struggling. There are computer programs and books that will help you learn how to understand and answer NCLEX type questions. Some have a mentoring program where they match a 1st semester student with an upperclassman nursing student. These programs are usually available, the school just doesn't advertise them. They wait for you to reach out for help. Let your instructors know that you want to succeed and will do whatever it takes to pass. You worked so hard to get into nursing school, don't give up now!

I totally agree! Now is the time to get help. Don't wait a minute longer. There all kinds of resources available out there for struggling students. Your guidance counselor and instructors want you to succeed. Ask for help! Our guidance counselor even offers to lead guided relaxation techniques for us before each test to help calm nerves. The school I go to offers free tutoring services right on campus as well. Don't give up! *hugs*

What you described is pretty much how I have felt through out all of nursing school. Some people in my class always did really well at the exams while I on the other hand had no doubts I was learning the information, but was horrible at taking tests. Even though I am finishing up my last year of nursing school, I know (from personal experience) that no matter how you do through out the semester don't give up. There is always some slim chance that a passing grade could come out of nowhere. (ie, my pharm class) Take for instance my current class, chronic, It is a seven week course and no matter how much effort you put into the entire semester the highest grade you can have going into the final is a 60% because the final counts for 40% of the grade (while the previous three exams are only worth 20%)!! Right now I am at a 50% and it sucks but I really have to prove myself for the final! Hang in there it's a bumpy ride!! Good luck........

I didn't think I was going to make my first semester in mursing school ( my instructors didn't either.) Also I wasn't fitting in with classmates. Third semester, I helped one classmate study and brought her gardes up. By the end of the program, about 10 people were in my little study group. you do need to figure out why you are doing pooorly. are you studying and taking notes? good luck

I agree with the other posts. Also talk with some of your classmates and see what they're doing as far as studying. Good luck to you!

I know how you feel. I'm in a chemistry class now (never took chemistry before and even if I had it would have been more than 10 yrs. since I had had it).

There is this young girl who always seems to know the answers and she flitters around and acts sooo cute. The more I saw how self assured she was and imagined how she was going to just coast through the class while I kept studying and studying and getting more frustrated and sure I was doomed for failure.

Well, we got back our first test last night. Turns out I did as well as she did (B) and furthermore, I found out she is fresh out of high school and had high school chemistry.

So, I wouldn't be so sure everyone but you is doing well. Anywya, I would definitely go see the teacher. I believe that success is 1% inspiration, 99% perspiration.

Good luck!

Poor you. I know how you feel, but try and keep positive. Are you trying too hard? sometimes it makes the world of difference if you can just step back and chill for a while - it gives your mind a rest and gives it time to digest information. If you try to cram in everything, you won't retain it.

This couse can take over your life, but you must try and take time for yourself or you'll go mad !!!!!

Good luck and keep us posted.

I have felt the exact same way nearly everyday since this semester has began. It seems as if everyone else is happy and clued into some big secret. They are self assured and confident while I am trying to keep up. My test grades have gotten better but only because I study every minute I am a wake. I still feel like a lost puppy in clinical.:o
